BSW is a new contest that we have been thinking about for a long time. We have kicked around a lot of ideas for rules and this is the latest draft. Comments welcome to improve the contest.

Rules to be read and handed out before the contest begins:

Life isn’t fair and neither is this contest. All rulings by the judge are final and you agree to abide by those rulings or don’t bother starting.

- 50 min presentations and 10 min breaks
- Scoring is by tests administered at the end of each round.
- Docked 1 point for every minute past the top of the hour that you are not in your seat.
- Judge or Judge’s designee (usually the speaker) can dock you points for
o Not paying attention
o Talking (excessively)
o Working the system
- Bathroom breaks whenever you need but you get docked a point is you have to go outside of the scheduled breaks. You will be docked another point for each minute past 5 that you do not return. Excessive bathroom breaks will get you eliminated at judge’s discretion.
- If you work the system you risk being eliminated.
- Sleeping is automatic elimination.

The judge will not be present for most of the contest. In addition to the speaker’s reports, contestants will monitor each other. Cell phone pictures of sleeping contestants or empty chairs (showing the time they leave and their late return) will be used to dock points. Remember, your fellow contestants WANT you eliminated because they make more money.

By signing below I agree to these rules. I agree that the judge’s ruling is final in all matters and that there is no appeal.

When is the contest supposed to run?

During the day hours of the con?
For how long will we be expected to endure?

What kind of presentations can we expect?

Vastly different areas of expertise or just focused on on particular area?

Testing is done to evaluate what you retained from a presentation, yes?

Will those tests be administered during the 50 minute presentation period or will they be during the 10 minute break period?
How long will we have to take the tests?

Will there be Q&A sessions during the presentations?

If so, would participation be manditory?

Will there be material on the tests that is not apart of the presentation?

During the day hours of the con? Yes. I may negotiate to get Sound of Knowledge for contestants but that is not confirmed yet.

For how long will we be expected to endure? 36 hours

What kind of presentations can we expect? Vendors choice. Expect it to be filled with buzzwords and relatively low value. This is about the money and the endurance, not your education

Will those tests be administered during the 50 minute presentation period or will they be during the 10 minute break period? Undecided, but it won't be designed to mess with you. It is intended as a tie breaker. You will get your breaks.

speaking of testing... will you be drug testing anyone? i can't imagine people staying awake through 36 hours of shit as dull as vendor talks without tweaking or bumping up in the bathrooms during bladder breaks.

Hello, DC949 of the Open CTF contest here. We will be bringing plenty of sound gear, as is our tradition. We were wondering if it was a good thing for you or a bad thing for you if we play music at extremely loud levels... I assume this increases the difficulty but we understand if it is difficult enough.

We won't have the lab on-site :frown: however, I think I will tweak the rules to say that anyone suspected of doping will get the same treatment Olympic athletes get. That's why I have the "all rulings by the judge are final and I can do anything I want" rule to cover stuff like this that we may not think of till the middle of the contest.

well i'm not sure on the number of people that signed up so far. when i inquired about this by e-mail with numbertwo, as of july 15 there area at least 7 people that have said they would do it. a couple days later i received another e-mail wanting to confirm.

so tonight i replyed to the e-mail a second time to make sure he got my info. apparently numbertwo is out traveling so i got an auto reply.

but at least on the up side. there will be people there to play and have fun. lets just hope that we don't loose anyone before the 24 hour mark.

I would LOVE to know more about what's going on with this contest.... before FRIDAY would be nice!

I was on a plane for the con-call.... so I know very little still.

Questions:

1. Food/Beverage etc.... what's allowed, what's not
2. 30 Hours or 36???
3. How many contestants now?
4. Who are the speakers?
5. After the 24 hours are we still getting the DVD's?

I sent out an email same day as the TC that answers all your questions. I just sent it again. Let me know if you can't get it. I didn't want to post all the detail about the contest on the forums. It's a little like finding out how sausage is made....

We have 7 contestants confirmed, but I cut it off there. I have had several requests in the last 2 days for people to be on the waiting list.

The contest is 30 hours starting at 12 noon on Friday and ending at 6PM Saturday.
