As for Xor's cats, when he's not keeping them warm on an overly large monitor, he uses them for an antenna on his AP. The cats' eyes glow on Transmit.

Thanks. I like Siamese cats because they are very intelligent and they are vocally expressive. I speak English, Binary and Cat :-). When people ask me what they are like; I tell them imagine your favorite childhood stuffed animal coming to life and that is a Siamese cat. People have childhood memories of Lady and the Tramp and think Siamese are mean; it couldn't be further from the truth. However, they do tend to imprint(aka glue) on one or a just a few people in a family.

Well, when all is said and done, I am using the current Default Main and am quite happy with it and admit that it is much better, due to the toned down contrast of the first attempt.
While I like some of the color Deviant added and would find that just as acceptable, I guess I am just too easy going and my lack of normal color vision makes it easy for me to accept just about anything that is not bright white on black.

To summerize - Neil - Damn fine work!

i love it. You rock so hard for going through so many iterations with us. Thanks man, you kick ass. Great work!

(So, if the input forms are all Helvetica before Arial, does anyone know if there is a TrueType or OpenType helvetica font out there for us non-Mac folk?)
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

Nice Neil. The only thing I would change is the white/blue Post title and the name under. The title of the post should be the brighter than the posters name on the new darker page. In other words if you just flip them around and leave everything else alone it's perfect including the colors, contrast, and fonts. I thought I'd test it again on dial-up for browser look and speed and there seems to be a slightly faster (albeit not as fast as original) page load. You might want to test the look and speed with different browsers too as that can change both the appearance and speed of loads on both LCD and CRT's. Otherwise, I think your there! {:~)

I think the size and weight of the post titles establish the hierarchy, they are visually more important despite their lower tonal value. The style that governs the names affect too many other things that it would "break" it visually to lower the contrast. I feel like it works as it is.

As for the load times, I only actually added about 25Kb of image weight to the entire site, which yes, adds about 5 seconds to load on 56k dial-up, but is in my opinion, acceptable for the vast majority of users...

Anybody have thoughts on these points?

current emphasis, etc. are fine. site loads blisteringly fast for me, even when my connection is all Tor-tastic.

I've done more than my share of critiquing up until this time so now i'm officially wearing a "Go Team Neil" cheerleader outfit.
