Anti-virus vendors can go suck it. Really, what does it matter if there are new possible viruses out there? There are already new ones out there daily, and most anti-virus software does not even properly identify new and upcoming ones before the latest "definitions" are pulled down from the Internet.

This seems more like a way to discredit DefCon, and the people who attend it, as bad bad people. Just like the media likes to portray most of us anyway!

To be fair, when they said "vendors" they meant AVG and Trend Micro.

This just proves that DC is full of evil bastards...yet and again.

Good, if it were anything else I'd be sorely disheartened.

I guess this will satisfy the whole "generate interest in the contest" item on the checklist of shit to do.

This contest just sounds fun and now since the AV company's are crying it sounds even better. I think we (hackers) should not be afraid to ask questions about the systems that are designed to protect our computers. This contest will show that many of these systems will probably be easier to bypass than we originally thought.

We as a hacker community should be asking these questions. If the BIG BROTHER company's don't like it, then they should not bother showing up. But, I can expect that they will be there in force watching the outcome of the contest.

The truth is hard to hear at times. This is just another example of company's wanting to keep people quit in order to protect there "bottom line". This in an industry of company's that are out selling snake oil that offer "compliance" to PCI or some other law passed by fat cat congressman.

Keep the great ideas coming Defcon. This is why I love this con so much.

At least the wired piece bothered to visit the contest site and point out that it has nothing to do with "creating new viruses" and everything to do with putting the security of signature based scanners to the test they deserve if they want our trust (and money).
