    DAVIX Visualization Workshop

    Raffy and I are working on a live CD for data analysis and visualization (DAVIX). It integrates a set of existing free data processing and visualization tools into a single integrated environment. This makes visual analysis of logs really simple and fun!

    We officially release DAVIX 1.0 at Blackhat USA 2008/DEFCON 16. To give interested attendees a hands-on introduction to DAVIX, we would like to organize a 2 hour fairly informal workshop during DEFCON.

    Anyone here who can help us get a space for the workshop?

    The DAVIX Visualization Workshop is on! It will take place on Sunday, August 10th 2008 from 2 PM to 4 PM at DEFCON Track 5.

    At this "Bring Your Own Laptop" workshop we will introduce you to DAVIX. The workshop starts with an introduction to the set of available tools, the integrated manual, as well as customizing the CD to your needs. In a second part, you can use DAVIX to analyze a set of provided packet captures. In the end we will show some of the visualizations created by the participants. Be prepared for pretty and meaningful pictures!

    For you to be able to participate in the analysis part of the workshop, you should bring an Intel or AMD x86 based notebook with at least 1GB of memory and a wireless LAN adapter. To avoid problems with the Wireless card setup we strongly recommend that you run DAVIX in VMware Player or VMware Fusion in NAT mode. The DAVIX ISO image should be downloaded before the workshop from the http://davix.secviz.org homepage. The network capture files will be made available during the workshop.

      According to the Website there is no link to download and in the Download section it simply states that it is only available to beta testers. Does one have to create a user account in order to get to a page that will let you download the image. Given the Defcon talks start a week from Friday (9 days) would it be too much to ask that a download link be put on the main page?

        Thank you DaKahuna for making us aware of this issue. We will fix the secviz.org download page as soon as possible. We are still working on the final touches of the DAVIX image, so allow us another couple of days.

        The image will be made available to anyone without registration. I will post an update when everything is set up correctly.

              DAVIX Workshop ISO Is Ready for Download

              Finally, the moment has arrived and the DAVIX ISO image for the DEFCON Visualization Workshop is ready. Compared to the standard release, the workshop image contains a network capture file that we will be analyzing during the workshop. The PCAP file is located in the /root directory.

              To get ready for the workshop, download and configure DAVIX to run in VMware Player as set out in chapters 6.1.1 and 6.1.2 of the DAVIX manual. The document can be downloaded from: http://82.197.185.121/davix/release/...nual-1.0.1.pdf
