I begin this post with an apology: I am an idiot, and apparently
incapable of reading. Fortunately, Shrdlu called this to my
attention.
My announcement of the Coffee Wars winner at the closing ceremony
was erroneous: apparently, I am unable to look at a column in a
spreadsheet and pick the biggest number. The coffee that received
first place was actually second place: it was great coffee, but it
was judged out by another competitor. When I looked at the
spreadsheet to identify the winner, I simply misread the scores,
and picked the wrong one.
I have no excuse and I apologize.
I've notified both contestants, and we will be awarding two
championship mugs this year-- since it would be unacceptable to
withdraw the one that was announced at the winning ceremony. In
addition, it should be noted that the second-place contestant whose
name I announced as the winner really did have some excellent
coffee.
So, then.
The bang-for-the-buck winner remains, as stated, Brian with his
entry "Salawesi Schitso." His bang-for-the-buck score was 1.5,
rivaled only by "Peaberry Scuffle," his other entry. Clearly,
this is an area in which home production pays dividends.
And finally, the winner of CoffeeWars 9, with an overall score of
7.5, is G Mark Hardy with "Aloha Fed" (Royal Kona Roy's Blend),
hand-carried straight from Hawaii. Well played, G Mark.
Sorry, once again, to the two contestants whose scores I reversed.
That concludes this Coffee War. Shrdlu will be posting the full
results spreadsheet in the very near future, over on the
coffeewars.org web site. View the judges' ratings and comments!
Relive the insanity! And see you next year.
