DC is worse, but MD is not too far behind.

any examples you can give there? From what i'm looking up, Maryland has no permit or registration process and the state allows ownership of full autos, suppressors, short barreled weapons (rifle and shotgun) as well as destructive devices. That's even better than what i face up here in NJ.

EDIT: You can also have 20 round mags while up here we're restricted to 10. (And it looks like you can even possess larger capacity mags, but they can't be bought or sold in the state.)

One example. Technically there are concealed carry permits, but its not a shall issue state, and they make it a joke. One of the ways to get one is that you have to have documented threats (yes, plural) against your life.

I don't know about full autos and such so I can't speak to those laws.

if you mean a shoot of the boomstick variety, i am certainly interested and have been putting feelers out for a while. however, remember that ShmooCon takes place in the People's Republic of Columbia and that it's not a simple matter of bringing your guns back to the hotel room like in vegas, and leaving them locked under your bed or in your car trunk during the con.

would this be a pre-con or post-con event taking place outside the District? i have people with whom i could story my weapons in MD or VA, but i don't know what options other people would use.

even after Heller, i'm still a bit iffy on how the law breaks down and what rights people have. i like the idea of a shoot event, but the location makes it difficult. i'd love to hear others' thoughts on this one, for sure.

I'm thinking the Thursday before. The problem is the room rates for the Con are only Thursday - Through Sunday. So if people come Wednesday they get hit with the regular room rates;. which are just crazy.

The hotel appears to be more of a problem than anything. I can't find this policy on the web yet, but I spoke with a hotel loss prevention(go figure) supervisor and they stated unless the event made special arrangements that they don't allow guns to be stored in hotel rooms. Only LE's may store guns in their rooms. That leaves the car if you are traveling that way. Or discreet locked carriers if you are willing to buck the verbal undefined policy I just got.

Just reading the law I'm starting to understand why folks get upset. Man you have to be a lawyer to figure it out. Resident, non-resident; non-resident is a very broad term.

Under most jurisdictions you are a resident of wherever you a) declare residency, and b) live for more than 6 months out of each year. Registering to vote within a state is also considered to be a condition of residency, assuming you're eligible to vote. After that it can vary from place to place.

It seems to me that Texas has one of the lowest bars for residency, and that the requirements are something like getting a P.O. Box and living there for 30 days out of the year. Whatever the actual requirements are, I know it is used by a lot of RVers who are otherwise traveling much of the year, and have no real fixed address.

Also in TX if you co-habitate with someone for more than 27 1/2 hours you're married. :)

I do not think shooting anything other than a hand gun is something the doctor's are going to allow for at least six months to a year so I will be be participating.
