I just wanted to point new people back to the large artwork-filled posts above so they can see exactly what it is we at the TTB Project do in the holiday season, etc.

Traveling Terabyte Christmas Cheer Project

As some of you know from years past, during the pre-holiday season i like to burn loads of DVD-Rs full of "traditional" holiday TV specials, etc. and get them out to deployed units as a seasonal greeting from the TTB Project.

While in the past some people have offered donations to cover the costs of discs, ink, and postage... that is not my focus with any of these posts and emails. My main endeavor in the coming few days is the acquisition of destination addresses. Let me know to whom i should send these discs.

I want to get them out in the mail very, very soon so they have almost the whole month of December to reach their destinations (even that sometimes isn't enough if someone's unit is very forward-deployed). So if you know someone or someplace in uniform that could use holiday cheer, shoot me an address.

I already still have my USO database from last year, and they of course are all getting one, but i want to reach anyone else possible. I'm happy to send a disc direct to someone at an APO/FPO or send it to family state-side if they are preparing a larger care package that is going out soon.

I'm happy to send a disc direct to someone at an APO/FPO or send it to family state-side if they are preparing a larger care package that is going out soon.

I have some 10 still left from last year. I am off to the hinterlands for the holidays on December 5. Can you send me more before that date boyfriend? I also need prayer flags and awesome silk prayer wraps. Blessings on you! stay absolutely shiny!

heh... 10 is still a significant quantity, if you could spare one extra, you can always use it to create additional copies at your location. every DVD has within it the ability to create the whole package... there's an extra folder on the media with the artwork for the label and even the christmas card that goes in the envelope.

shoot... it seems i am full of fail on my first statement... the DVD does not contain a copy of the "card" that goes with it, only the disc artwork.

that's a super low-res version of the card (and not oriented and formatted for easy folding) but follow this link for the proper, high-resolution copy for easy printing.

We're officially underway...

the process had a few bumps as it got started (see the "Super Media Store Super Fail" as posted in the fucktard hall of fame thread or on the TTB news section at travelingterabyte.org) but now we're cranking out discs and i'll have the first round in the mail very soon. the few folk who got in touch with me through the forums and email will be getting theirs asap.

btw, if anyone is in contact with erehwon please poke him for me... i've tried his email but have no response yet. i'd like to see the TTB that's currently at his USO possibly make its way out to some Marines who have been waiting for one.

Things are proceeding well... so well, in fact, that (like last year) i made more discs than i actually needed. All the USO offices around the globe are getting a disc again, as is basically any unit who's had a TTB hit their station. Also, all the folk who emailed or PM'd me this holiday pre-season should be seeing a TTB envelope soon.

However, i have maybe a dozen more discs and cards remaining. (I just kind of kept cranking them out without realizing it... like a Russian student in a dorm, whenever i stopped by my machine and saw the disc drawer open i'd swap media. That's fine enough during the day when i'm busy but when i drink too much and get up a few times in the night i also wind up making loads of discs without realizing it. Thus, i wind up in the situation where i am now)

I know Val wanted some more discs. Does anyone else want a few? If you have the ability to reach out and touch someone in uniform, please just let me know. If we work fast in the next couple of days, there's still a good change you can get mail to them before Dec 25th unless they're very forward deployed.

If possible, you can always shoot me their APO or FPO address and i'll dispatch the envelope directly.

Thank you sugar! I took your earlier gentle chide and ran with it, cranking out disks on this end so now believe I have enough disks, though they may not be as pretty as yours the content and intent is still the same. :-D

The bulk of the DVD mailings is completed, at least as far as all of the addresses on my personal x-mas list are concerned. Today as the post office i sent out the latest bundle...

... but i'll mention again here that there are still surplus discs. I have about 15 or 16 still sitting here, fully printed and packed in shipping envelopes with the holiday card, etc. Is there anyone else out there with friends or family who are deployed that would like one?

seems a shame to just stick them in a drawer until next year. ah well, i have an interview on PaulDotCom on friday... maybe i'll try to work in a 10-second pitch for the TTB project to get some more folk via word-of-mouth through there.

just wanted to drop a note and mention that i'm starting to hear from the far-flung parties who were recipients of the TTB x-mas DVDs.

... even if it's just a tiny screen on an iPod or other portable media player, at least a touch of the season is making its way to deployed units in Iraq and elsewhere. i want to thank everyone who wrote in and asked to have someone special included on that mailing list.
