Re: Toorcamp (in the NorthWest) anyone?

So the location is starting to sound like Sealand, without all the Waterworld jokes. Still, the Toorcamp folks just need it to be there for a week and they're good.

I'll post my pics of the Titan Site 1 if I can dig them up. The layout is identical to Titan Site 2 (the toorcamp location). Basically these Titan I sites were a stop-gap measure designed to operate in the short term while the Titan II was developed. They were built quick and decommissioned after about 10 years. Site 1 unfortunately has its silos flooded by a natural rise in the water table, but most of the site is accessible (with landowner permission). We go over to Site 1 a few times a year (schedule permitting).

I'm considering going. It looks like a reasonable amount of fun. Unfortunately, it's also the most expensive of the four places I'm planning on heading this summer (considering airfare, rental, tick), so it's the most likely to be cut from the list. Tragic.

Then again, I don't know if there are any other smaller private airports in the area. As far as I know, there are no airlines that service Moses Lake although I could be wrong, so a private charter might be the only viable option.

FYI, the Titan Missile Silo site they picture is ~36 driving miles and almost directly east of the airport. It appears that the silos were only operational from 1959 to 1966, and are repeatedly put up for sale on eBay.
It appears United flies to Grant County International Airport (MWH) and the fare wasn't all that bad from Chicago, while I'm at it, you can rent Hertz rental cars from Columbia Pacific Aviation, they are a full service FBO so at least you can have the company AC-130 all fueled and ready to go.

While you may not be qualified to teach nighttime dead stick landings of an AC-130 while wearing AN/AVS-9's before your talk on DNSSEC at Toorcamp, There is however a Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites in Moses Lake to maybe help you along, if anything, it sure beats camping!

Re: Toorcamp (in the NorthWest) anyone?

I am most likely going to be driving out to Toorcamp from the Tri-Cities area (Richland) this summer. I've got a car with five seats, and there's only one of me, so if anyone is interested in carpooling and splitting gas costs, let me know! I could probably swing by the Tri-Cities airport if you get there at a reasonable hour and remember to shower.

Also, they've put up a few pictures of the silo: http://toorcamp.org/content/more-awe...ictures-divide.

Believe me when I say I became VERY popular with my team mates. It paid for itself in the first three days. Light, portable in a pack, and it truly works to remove the grime.

                /me laughs! Yes!

But sometimes you just have to dance under the raindrops. And babywipes don't work so good on the head hair. :-)

I have used baking soda to good effect in getting the ickies out of my hair, but sometimes having a water bath just WORKS!

Looks like I will be speaking on something at Toorcamp. Still waiting to hear from h1kari as to which of my two talks he wants. I'm probably only going to be out there for Thurs-Fri though as I need to be back in Western WA for the 4th of July.

Want to get a space for DEFCON Camp there?

I'm trying to get the apoco cruizer ready in time.

LOL. We'll keep a chase car on standby.

But I do like the idea of a DEFCON Camp.

DEFCAMP has been officially recognized as a campsite for Toorcamp. Now, who's in?

                          http://wiki.toorcamp.org/wiki/Campsites:DEFCAMP

Also, anyone who is down for it AND knows Media Wiki, lemme know. I dont got time to bust out a campsite page.

So what does one have to do to get let into the DEFCAMP : P

I'm coming from Spokane. My buddies bailed on me that where supposed to camp with me. Since I don't want to be all by my lonesome : 0, could I crash with your camp?

I've got all my own food and camping gear, just looking for some new people to hang out with.

There's already a contingent coming from 509, and I think one of them is even from Spokane.

                                Check out http://www.dc509.org/

There's a low volume mailing list as well.
