I just think it's ironic that we tried to start the Dublin meeting back in 1997 (bombed miserably due to Joey's House syndrome after about 6 months, yet still listed through 1998), but that I end up running the L.A. meeting, which people actually seem to keep going to. *shrug*

One other thing: credit where credit is due. This meeting and a good number of the people who attend it have been around longer than I've lived here. What happened was that as a group we took a dying meeting (one month, six people turned up; we went to the movies) and turned it around into something that people were willing to give up a Friday night for every month. This isn't something that I alone did in the three months I've been running the meeting out of the almost four years I've been attending, just to put things into perspective. All I can really do here is pass on what we've tried that's either worked or failed.

Thinking about it, though, this might be a good topic for the breakout areas if a) I can get time away from gooning / do it on my time off, and b) there's enough interest. Grifter? Wanna go doubles on it?

Yeah, if we can get our schedules to match up so we're both not on shift. I would deffinetly be down for tag teaming this topic. So how do we move forward?

I spoke with noid about 45 minutes ago about this, and he's going to see what he can do about getting us a breakout slot that won't conflict with either of our schedules. More news as I have it.

Uh, that would be one of the things we're waiting for. I know noid's busy this weekend, so whenever we have it from him we'll post it here.

                  For those interested...

The talk has been officially announced. Still no definite time for it, though, so keep an eye out; it will be in the breakout area, though. Details are at http://www.defcon.org/dcx-speakers.html#hackermeet - more info as we have it to come.

Is the talk mainly about starting a new meet? or is it fairly free-form? I run the Hamilton, On meets (www.hamilton2600.ca) but I'd be interested in ideas on how to raise attendance, make it a better meeting etc..
a pc-0x90 by any other name is a nummish..

                          Speech

We're looking at not only how to start a meeting, but how to make a meeting a success as well. This speech is for individuals interested in starting a meeting in their local area, or making their already established meeting better. Whether raising attendance, quality of individuals, behavior of attendees, or overal structure is needed.

It's going to be an open forum type talk with Skroo and I sharing Ideas and experiences that we have had, and what we think meetings can do to not only improve the local community, but the community as a whole.

I'd encourage anyone involved in, or hoping to be involved in their local meeting to attend. It should be fun, and we hope to get a lot of great feedback from everyone.
