    Re: Fffedddd!

He's got his work cut out for him too. Reading the DHS press release it was a whos-who of freedom grabbers and utter failures. Maybe Jeff can get in there and fight the good fight. Overall I think its a victory for hackers here in the US, definitely shows how things have come to the other end of the spectrum. Remember when these types used to (poorly) try to infiltrate our 2600 meetings or sat at a distance taking sneaky photographs? I still remember the spook activity back at the early DEFCONs it was comical at times but always had a certain level of scariness to it (the whole 'its dangerous to be right when the government is wrong' idea..)

So, give 'em hell Jeff. Or if nothing else, get them using accepted terminologies and nomenclatures when they talk about technology.

I return whatever i wish . Its called FREEDOWM OF RANDOMNESS IN A HECK . CLUSTERED DEFEATED CORn FORUM . Welcome to me

Hell...if you can get them to stop using the word "cyber" uless it's followed by a/s/l I'll pay you myself.

        Re: Fffedddd!

Honestly I don't think they could've picked a better representative of the infosec community than DT. I'm not sure if that was their aim in seeking someone like him for the role, but if I were picking someone for that role that's the criterion I would've used.

I'm a bit confused as to how to react to Mitnick vouching for Bruce Schneier over DT. I guess I should start by saying that Mitnick is irrelevant. Bruce Schneier seems like he'd be a nice choice from a purely technical perspective, but I think DT will make a better representative for the infosec community as a whole.

Having lived in SoCal for a number of years, I can guarantee that Baca is a PR pick. Lord knows it isn't off IQ, nor evidence of good choices.

I will so put into that pool it isn't even funny.

I'm not making a big effort to bash Mitnick or anything, but really if you want to talk about emerging threat and planning for the future you don't ask a relic who's one claim to fame was getting tossed in the pokey.

Lots of people have great presence, but DT was a good call. PR or not. Apparently my waiting for you to call them back comment in a different thread was pretty close to the mark.

Nor was it based on general competency.

Now that you're The Man, any chance of having our hackerspace turned into a government think tank? maybe a think tank with a pool table or air hockey?

Congrats, DT. This was a great choice and a move in the right direction.

Noid, what makes you think the feds will cough-up a pool table or air hockey table if I can't even get them to sign off on a PS3 for me?

Does this mean he has to file contact with foreign nationals paperwork if I hug him? If so, I think I just created a new game for con :)

congratulations DT, I hope you're able to make a positive impact.

edit-I don't think Kevin was detracting from your qualifications, more of a "surprised by the choice" and thinking that someone more "mainstream" if you will would receive an appointment of this type. I'll have to ask him about that.

Are they calling or just sending people on over to get a rebuttal to other 'hacking luminary' comments?

Maybe you can get a true hollywood story or something out of this!
