Thank you. Nothing has turned up initially, but once I spend some quality time on Findlaw, something should turn up.

my dress for the b & w ball..
is anyone else dressing up eh?
Sure, I'm dressing up for it. Wanted to last year, even brought a dress for it, but didn't have a hotel close enough to go change.

So far my backpack list runs as follows...

      -Laptop
-Floppies (both blank and full of tools)
-Installation cdroms for Windoze and Linux
      -Archives of securityfocus.com on cdrom
-Cables of all shapes, sizes, and kinds
      -Leatherman tool
      -Lockpick thingy
      -Small roll of duct tape
      -Mirror
      -Penguin mints
      -Aspirin
      -Band-Aids
      -Needle and spool of thread
      -Notebook
-Bits of wire, both insulated and non
      -Spare batteries
      -Wire ties
      -Granola bars
      -WATER!
      -Scanner radio
      -Film and camera
      -Music cds and cd player

I like to carry everything I could need, as well as things I can trade to other people for neat stuff (some of those people playing CTF get pretty hungry, you know...)

Most states' lockpick laws are covered under what are generally called "burglary tools". They almost always have some phrase meaning that you are breaking the law if you are carrying vise grips, lockpicks, baseball bats, crow bars, bolt cutters, glass cutters, wire cutters, etc, with the intent to commit a felony. How they prove intent for something like this I don't know, but basically, as long as you aren't running around an alley, at night, in black clothing, near a building full of a lot of money, there shouldn't be a problem. (Of course, that describes damn near ever con-goer as they walk down The Strip.)

This is one of those laws that is up to the descretion of the officer, and perhaps the judge if they get you on actual B&E. The cops around here tell me they will only charge with possession of burglary tools as a kind of attachment to make the B&E laws sting a little more, and have no problem with me playing with them as long as nothing is missing and no one complains.

Yet again, up to the cop.

Most of the enforcement type gents at DC are either Fed, or out of their jurisdiction. Unless you are doing something federal, or massively stupid, they aren't going to bother with a silly thing like possession of picks.

I conned a drink out of a guy with a belly pack at 7 for teaching him how to pick. I didn't ask, but I figure chances were more than even that he got paid through my tax dollars.

Hey R.J., what if we only have an intent to commit a misdemeanor? :D

Me thinks schwag is what to stock up on before getting to the con. I'll pack up with stuff I can't use anymore and trade it all off.

I've already copied tons of MP3s to my HD shared file for everyone to give and take, do you think it'll get hacked or will folks just be cool and trade or copy files only? Last year not too many folks traded, it was scary being hooked to the LAN for too long.

At a guess, it will be hacked. It's there, and that's really all that's required there and then.

Bring a hub, connect people up 4 or 5 at a time or so. If they are sitting next to you, you shouldn't have too much of a problem shoulder surfing for your own protection.

Heck I'll have a firewall and a hub. Maybe a NAS or Snap! Server would be best for file trading.

I'm just glads I am building an expendable hard drive.

Does anyone remember seeing THE AVENGERS tv show where Steed blows up a computer by entering the famous "self-destruct" command? I'd love to see that episode again, it'd be great if anyone could bring it.

I'll leech anything... <adds spare hds to his list...>
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

Oh yeah, have you ever seen a video where a cow was trying to cross a small little pool of water to get to the other side... unfortunate for the cow it was a pool filled with piranha... within minutes there is no more cow. Think of that as the LAN. :)

Speaking of off-topic disgusting shit happening to cows...

There was a news broadcast a couple of years ago from one of those eastern european countries that's had a couple decades of civil war, ethnic cleansing, etc. Anyway, NATO or the UN was in town to keep the peace, and a reporter was doing the talking head thing standing in front of a field.

One of the cows behind her stepped on an anti-vehicle mine.

URL? :) I remember watching a vid on that whale that got beached, and some guy miscalculated the amount of TNT to use to disintegrate the corpse.. they did the countown and a big explosion and people running screaming for it was raining huge chunks for whale, crashing through windshields, knocking people over... I am not into death, or mutiliation, but g0d-damn that shit is funny.
