K this may have been another post before i dunno, but just out of curiousity, anyone know the cheapest hotel to stay at that isnt a complete piece of sh*t? The stratosphere's rates are pretty low, but i dont know the quality of the hotel, or how close it is. Any suggestions for a hotel thats relatively close to defcon but not so expensive? (yes ive seen the list on the site)

I've heard good things about the Rio and harrah's from a couple of associates that travel to Vegas a lot said it is pretty cheap and relitivly decient thrus 65.00 fri and sat each 95.00 and sun 65.00 at harrah's for two adults split that 160 a piece for four days not a total rip off- but then again you still have to travel from you hotel to defcon could be a problem if you aren't driving cab fare could get costly.
65 harra's for two adults

if transportation to and from isn't a problem go to vegas.com and do a search they have room for the four days listed above with teh same search criteria for as low as around 172.00Nuke 'um till they glow

OK....just to stress, I am NOT suggesting that anyone try to screw the system. I am merely providing some info to people so you have knowledge.
Gov rate at a hotel is much cheaper than normal. Couple of caveats. Strip hotels will very rarely honor gov rate on the weekend. Off strip casino hotels will very rarely honor gov rate on the weekend.
Off strip non-casino hotels will almost all honor gov rate on the weekend. Gov rate is $79.00 per nite.
Only ONCE have I had a hotel actually ask for a gov ID.
If a person is unable to produce a gov ID they do not have to honor the Gov rate and can charge their regular rate.
Just FYI, again, I am not suggesting that anyone attempt to get a gov rate if they aren't entitled to it.perl -e 'print pack(c5, (41*2), sqrt(7056), (unpack(c,H)-2), oct(115), 10)'

Places also have AAA rates, student rates, just ask!
they said sorry we are booked.
I said, I am here for defcon
They said, oh we are only booked for non-defcon attendees
and she got my cc and reserved a room for me.
I then asked if I could use my AAA card and she said no, it is fixed.

So the folks causing some of the troubles were passing through, they must have been something, some of the guests were pretty bad.
Does the con maintain a "banned" list of folks that are not welcomed back? How about the hotel?
Oh, I'll gladly offer you my hushmail address. :)

Usually that's a good price for 2 people, anyone else wil add afew bucks to the cost, but only a few bucks.
Does the price increase count only if they sleep? What if you stay up all night? Or sleep in shifts? Or don't want to maid to come by until you check out?

I hate to point this out, but...
I know of several people that booked at the AP during con online, without booking as a DC attendee. They apparently had quite a few rooms available outside of the DC reserved block. I wondered about this, since we've often had problems with people in the room next door being flight attendants, pilots, etc, who don't want any noise.the fresh princess of 1338
