Looking to join a team this year..

This may be the wrong place to post this, and if so I'm sorry, please move to an appropriate place.

I'm interested in joining a team this year.. but have not participated in the event before. Any existing teams need another member?

This is a fine place to put this post I believe. You may not get an immediate response, however, don't despair. If you cannot get onto a team ahead of time, come to the contest area at defcon and we can help get you hooked up, I'm sure.

            ditto for me,

want to join a team, first time being to defcon.
I'm a runner so if there's something the team needs to get from a place,
            I'll do it.

            Thanks.cannonball5-at-moloch.org

Come to the DC101 talks at 1PM on Thursday if you will be in Vegas. Or, make your way to the contest table on Friday morning. We open at ten. See you all there!

Re: Looking to join a team this year..

Speaking from experience, its relatively difficult to get a team built up ahead of time. Too many people end up flaking for other events. It can also be difficult to get on a pre-formed team, as people who have teams built up are often already at the 5 player limit with their friends.

That said, its really easy to put a team together. Hang out at the table for a bit, and your'e sure to find someone who wants to play as well. My first year playing was with a group of people that I hadn't met before. Siv, Eris and Vandal will also be a great resource at the table cause they will be hearing from people who want to play.
Of course its fully cooked... we had it set on "linen".

This was the biggest problem trying to form out team. We started too early and people started flaming out, including myself. Everything is a learning experience, though.

I think that's part of the game though. Scavenger Hunt is not just one of these random contests that anybody can do. It takes real dedication to win it.

Scavenger Hunt, seriously is one of the most challenging contests at DefCon.

And to further explain what I said above, it's about finding/forming the right team. Everybody has different skills and assets they can bring to the table. If you want to win the game you need to find people with a wide assortment of those skills and assets.

"Eternal glory! That's what awaits the team who wins The Scavenger Hunt, but to this that team must dedicate themselves to the challenge. The Scavenger hunt is not for the weak minded or lazy." (Inspired by Dumbledore)

People don't always remember who won the scavenger hunt year to year, but people do remember what some of the scavenger hunt teams and participants did. It's the stuff of DefCon Legends.

So, g3k, if I were you, I'd spend some time, find a good group of people and submit your self to the challenge...
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts, And I looked and behold: a pale horse. And his name, that sat on him, was Death. And Hell followed with him.

Teamwork and leadership is what makes the game happen. Creativity and enthusiasm is what makes the game fun. The judges are who make the game sick and twisted. Though the game is challenging, scav hunt is in no way impossible, and you are the only one who can perceive it as hard.

Enjoy DefCon, and I'll see you at the table!
