Are you a licensed ham? If so, it's easy (and free) to become a VE:

I am a licensed HAM however I am only a Technician class. I was pretty sure you had to be General or higher and reading through the manual you linked to verified that. :(

At this point I don't think I have time to get my license upgraded (the next testing in my area is at the beginning of July) to General and become a VE before the Con. I'm still happy to help and I'll plan on being ready for next year though.

I'm a VEC as a General Class Ham which means I can test for Technician. I'd be happy to help BUT can only do it in the evening as I am a Daytime Security Goon.

Beginning of July is plenty of time! You don't actually need your new license from the FCC, you just need the CSCE from your test which clearly shows you're new class obtained. That's sufficient to act as a VE at the new level.

If nothing else, it's an excuse to upgrade. I strongly encourage you to give it a try. And, if you pass the General test, go ahead and take the Extra. It doesn't cost you anything except a bit of time, and in my experience, about 1 time out of 3 people will pass the next higher test with no studying. With odds like that, you'd be crazy NOT to take it. :-)

I am licensed General and in the process of becoming VE. Read through the manual just have to send in the paperwork. Not sure how much help that is since General only can do Tech IIRC, and I don't think I'll be Extra in time for the con. Like Smitty, I'll probably be busy in the HHV but if needed I'm sure I could lend a hand.

Heh, alright you've convinced me. I'll take the test to get upgraded to General and try for Extra. I'll keep you all informed.

Do you guys need more VEs? I'm extra class and can probably get my VE credentials by Defcon..
