A big yes on keeping the CD.
Seeing the speakers slides prior to the talk without having to go through a hostile network is a huge plus.

Just so you know, your effort is greately appreciated, at least by me. I normally check in on Thursday and spend that afternoon/evening going through the sides and making the final selection of talks to attend based on those. Having access to the content on the CD makes the con a lot more enjoyable for me as a couple of times what sounded like it would be a great talk ended up not having the content I was expecting and allowed me to attend another talk that I was interested in.

So - please - keep those CD/DVD's coming.

If you are going to hand out removable media, I suggest a retro approach.

At least one future defcon, perhaps the anniversary, should go totally retro. Like a badge with tubes.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. This applies to making babies, hacking, and youtube videos.

in this day an age wouldn't it be cheaper to hand out solid state drives than to have 7000 ish of those drives created?

          Perhaps tape?
