Re: Hot girl hacker needs help
Interesting. There are at least 2 other women in this thread making all of the pertinent points. I gave a nod of "me too" and you feel the need to single me out. Do I need to hold up the mirror? You have no idea what type of person I am. Some people here do, and they are most likely laughing at you right now. Sorry about that.Yea, I hear that shitty argument from gay people in reference to other gay people all the time. And it's no less bullshit there than it is here.
But hey, the one group of gay people who make it difficult on another group use that crappy reasoning for their justification, and you're just doing the same... So bully for you.
But You're right.
Now I do know - what type of person you are.
Also.. Sorry you disagree with my opinion, but sadly prejudice does exist. Human beings determine their initial behavior towards each other based upon their own personal experience and education. In that way, a person who reinforces a negative stereotype DOES make it harder for a person who does not. Negative experiences change the way a person approaches similar situations in the future. Do I wish we could all be like hexjunkie? Heck yes I do. :) That would rock.
I have no problem with this girl. It doesn't matter to me if she is a fake. It doesn't matter to me if she is flaunting her looks because she is looking for a nerdy boy. Nerdy boys need love. :) What I have a problem with is the way she presented herself. If what she REALLY wants is the respect of the other women in this community, she is going to have to prove that she can play by the same rules as the men. Eye candy is fantastic, but it is the icing on the cake when you are talking about a community founded to bring together competent and creative individuals. Tough love. ;)Leave a comment:

You watch the "expert" make a fool of himself and you say "Great. That is how the world will see us now. This may spoil opportunities for us later on." That is EXACTLY how women feel when we see another woman misrepresenting our gender within any chosen field.

Re: Hot girl hacker needs help
We're all judged by our looks, like it or not. And by our intelligence, and strength, and a number of other attributes that are deemed desirable by society and not entirely within our control. Nikita is right, achievement is key, but I'm enough of an anarcho-capitalist to not be too concerned with which of one's natural talents or gifts are used to achieve. Some folks achieve a lot because they make use of the beauty, brawn or brains nature has provided. I do not fault actors, porn stars, or pro athletes for achieving fame and fortune with what they've got. And, in general, in the lab or not, a little eye candy now and then is a good thing. I could never be an actor or model; I've got friends who are. They got in to their line of work because they are physically beautiful and working with it. I couldn't make it in their world, and they couldn't make it in mine. I'm happy with that, because we both have a place...
...that said I think the OP is one or more of the following- trap
- goofball
- naive noob
- silly swinger
I really doubt that last one, because she hasn't mentioned being bi yet.
Let's hope it's the third choice, at least that's something to work with.

Re: Hot girl hacker needs help
I cannot speak for all of female geekdom, but I guess one of the issues is that most of us female geeks/hackers/etc. have at some point had our guy counterparts treat us like we were less of a genius just because we have two legs instead of three. I hope the guys here are not like that, and from my perspective none of you seem to be in that mindset. However, someone rolling in flaunting a Pretty Pretty Princess persona annoys us, because most of us want to be recognized for our brains, not our bodies. SWs have a disruptive effect that suddenly puts everything in the wrong context - they are freaks, not geeks, but some guys do fall for it. Pretty girls who really are hackers should be smart enough to know that their bodies detract from their brains when they present themselves in a certain way. Intelligent girls who become SW sellouts just to fit in or be accepted by the guys nauseate me. If I were pretty, I would be disgusted by guys ogling and giving me unwarranted attention and would want them to see that my brains can be more interesting than my bra size. To me, my mind and soul are the "real" me, and my body and looks are merely incidental to the rest of me. I often think we would all be better off if we had only our screen names and the products of our knowledge to represent us, both online and offline.Leave a comment:

Re: Hot girl hacker needs help
I would say in my personal opinion, which doesn't mean much I guess, it doesn't matter how one person represents themselves. I never equate a person's work ethic, knowledge, drive and ambition as the norm for that sexual, social, or racial group. This would be an assumption that none of us think for ourselves, and in reality generates that the guys of the board are assumed to work from flawed logic. I gauge a person based on their work or their way the interact with me. Note that I say gauge, not judge. Anyone is capable of doing something truly amazing, in this case here I'd say she is not speaking for all of "womankind" unless she makes a statement to that effect. I would hope that the entire community at the very least holds this type of opinion because of the way that we are constantly being held in a very negative light. For most of us; this light has been shown on us since birth.I just thought I'd comment on this. (Even though Nikita has pretty much said everything.<3 ) It's not a "harder on women" thing. It's a misrepresentation thing.

In the words of the infamous Rodney King:
"Can't we all just get along?"
If you recall I made a statement that a majority of the women of DefCon are very beautiful, it is an opinion based on the women that I have meet and or seen at DefCon. Does that mean that all female hackers are beautiful.. far from it.. though the same can be said for all the males at the conference. This girl finds herself attractive and she wants to flaunt it let her.. it does no real harm to any of the female hackers in this social group. I would assume a good portion of regular attendees has met most of the women who post here. Their opinion would not drop due to the addition of a new person. If she is infact a scene whore she will be seen as such and then cast out from the social group. If she knows things and can demonstrate that through normal human conversation she will be accepted as a peer, not because of her looks but due to her ability to hold a conversation on the same level as whoever she is speaking to.
Until she gets to a platform where people actually listen to whatever they are being told, namely a political forum of some kind or news outlet, this is a no harm no foul situation. Is she skilled, I have no idea. Are the women who post on this forum on a regular basis skilled, hell yes. Would I think any less of the women I know based on this girls drivel? The smart ass wants to yell yes, but in reality no. Her posts do not modify my current opinion of any person I have currently met at DefCon.Leave a comment:

Re: Hot girl hacker needs help
Nikita, well said! Your post summed up how I feel about this topic as well.Last time I checked, and I know I've said this a million times before, the SEX of a person is irrelevant to them being a hacker...You have done nothing, you did not *achieve* a pretty face, you are not hot because you have a hidden talent called being hot... Re: Hot girl hacker needs help
Hah. Beat me to it. I was just looking for that link since I couldn't find a direct link on the Blackhat site.No offense if you are who you say you are, BeautifulHacker, but this whole thing looks like a rerun of Robin Sage http://www.darkreading.com/insiderth...leID=225702468 The scant social networking profiles, the forwardness of your original post, and the last minute plea to go to Defcon seem to parallel some of "Robin's" techniques. Your interest in social engineering makes me think that we are the ones being social engineered. Perhaps a reporter or fed is trying to social engineer her (or his, using a female persona) way into Defcon? Again, sorry if I am wrong, but those are my suspicions.

Re: Hot girl hacker needs help
Last time I checked, and I know I've said this a million times before, the SEX of a person is irrelevant to them being a hacker.
Your looks mean jack shit to me. You have done nothing, you did not *achieve* a pretty face, you are not hot because you have a hidden talent called being hot. You were just BORN. You did nothing to contribute to that, and I'm not going to celebrate that or encourage that as an asset to your value as a human being on this planet. What should be encouraged is a desire to do something with your brain other than think of ways to value yourself by sex and appearance.
When you tell people you are Hot, Model, Hacker Girl, Cute, etc...you are saying that your worth is special only because of values you yourself had nothing to do with. Your chromosomes are not of your choosing, and therefore you look stupid. Regardless of if you actually have more going on upstairs than you let people believe, but when you behave like the perceived stereotype you think we all want you to be ( Angelina Jolie in the Movie hackers) Then you do yourself a disservice and get flamed to pieces.
There is not a lot out there for you to know otherwise unfortunately. The media, the world itself leads you to believe you need to act a certain way...well fuck them damnit, fuck them hardcore. The first thing you need to do is be yourself, and If you really are a shallow person and want to use looks and sex as your venue, you won't make many real friends at DEF CON, just a few "connections" at con. Mostly sexual interest and they all wont take you seriously, you will be labeled a scene whore. If you wan't to be scene whore you will get the attention the crave no doubt, but you will learn nothing.
I personally invite you to the forum meet. I think you should attend and meet us, I think that it would be nice to have another "one of us" around, and be able to prevent a disaster from happening. No one really wants a genuine person ( and by all accounts, you do seemingly appear to be well intentioned) from becoming exploited, laughed at,taken advantaged of and labeled another "scene whore". That's why you get so much flak on here. There are SO FEW of us ladies in comparison, and every year a few SW's show up and put us back a notch a little, and piss us off royally, because we want to be treated as equals, and since we are outnumbered.....not many people discourage the half naked women throwing their titties around like shurikens.
