but seriously folks, we are all socially retarded. Get over it.

<- You can't talk in public, and I mean AT ALL.. when people are around you cannot speak!
<- You can't socialize without being drunk off your ass
<- You have a fear that your opinions are not those of the people around you
<- You have a fear that no-one will listen to your thoughts and ideas
<- You're afraid that someone will think that your gay
<- You're afraid that someone will think you're straight
    <- You're a femanazi
<- So are you, but you were born a man
<- You're afraid that someone wont like you because you're fat
<- You don't like the thought that everyone might like you because you're marginally attractive and not because you’re smart
<- You... damn.. I have no idea where to even begin with you... maybe you should get in Eris' cage instead and let her out to get some sun for a while... DAMN...

and me? Hell, anyone that knows me know that I have more issues than the new your times. Some people are going to approach this group poorly. Some are going to bring in issues from past social gatherings, some are going to rely on their looks, money, sexual availability... but too few people have the audacity to approach a community like ours with their brains. That could have a lot to do with the fact that when they show up they are willing to learn. Everyone here has been taught something by a noob. Everyone has had the opportunity to be enlightened by someone who you may have previously thought had little to no right being there. I know that I have... and I know that I have been that person for others :)

Glad I could start a shit storm, sorry if I was being trollish, welcome to DefCon. Speak loudly and carry as many beers as you can. You will make mistakes, as will others. Read The Art of War and learn to "fight only the battles that you can win" before you show up.. it will serve you well.

    To my fans; Thank you
    To the haters: peace out
To the mods: oh come on.. you thought it was funny too!

and to Nikita: you know I loves ya Puddin

Re: Hot girl hacker needs help

I think anyone who wanted to go to defcon, would know about defcon.
they would know about this forum, they would learn about what goes on, it is the people it attracts, people that go to defcon don't need to be babied, spoon fed, I'm surprised this thread didn't go downhill..(not that there was anything explicitly wrong about it)
but there are people who will thrive at defcon and people that will see it flash past them and go home none-the wiser, while there would be many people willing to help, I cant imagine many willing to help if someone can't help themselves

    the Cot Man said this:

"In the rules, we impose a forced lurking period so new users can become familiar with the forums. For some spaces on the forums (Rides & Room Sharing and /dev/random) we allow users to post right-away. Even spending just 1 hour to read about contests, events, and current planning related to Defcon could provide a new user with a great deal of knowledge related to Defcon and socializing on the forums, and from my experience, hackers are not afraid of reading or education."

it did not surprise me, the reaction OP's post got, and if she had done any sort of research/reading/lurking she would not of been surprised either, an avid social engineer, calculates there social interaction carefully so her claims (even if she is only learning/beginner/practicing) would of justified users responses to her thread.

I only wish I could make it to Defcon this year, I would of been happy to down a few frozen margaritas and talk shop, as many others will be.

I think that we should all feel happy that the OP was not a troll. Yeah, it had all the markings of a troll post (if it walks like a troll, smells like a troll, etc.). She verified her social media accounts and even changed her picture- by request- to prove it was her. She then made the offer to be her FB friend, and you could learn more about her.

After a day or so, I did. I know of at least one other that did. She is clearly not a 28 day SE case study. That for me confirmed she was indeed a real person- and was being honest.

She made a mistake by being a noob, but she apologized for it. And in my book- that's way cool. Admit the error, learn the lesson, and move on from it. Hell, I thought the matter was resolved. But then it got a bit ugly. And, has anyone noticed she has not posted since?

I hope she does make it out, because she is going to find how many amazing people show up. It is like a who's who of gifted talent. Last year was my first year- and it was everything and more. I left DC with a larger knowledge base, but I didn't have the depth of the newly acquired information (which I've spent the past year learning). I think we should encourage more people to come out- and not thrash'em once they apologized for a mistake.

We have all been noobies at one time in our life. Now, we should be mentors for those that come after us. And happy to share the information we already know. My "I've arrived at Defcon" moment was Thursday night (drunk) at the pool having someone mapping out the SIPRNet network structure using empty beer cans and shot glasses and having a DoD employee walk away 1/2 way through the discussion stating, "I can't listen to any more of this." That feeling, I hope gets shared by everyone at some point while they are at Defcon. No matter if you are a 10+ year veteran or first time attendee.

I am sorry if I've rambled, but the gist of what I'm saying is that we should encourage versus discourage new people from experiencing Defcon. Let them come out and see if this is a culture for them- I know it is for me.

    (Where's my evil grin?)

Can't we all just agree that it's what's between your ears what commands respect as opposed to what's between your legs? Or regardless if your tits produce milk or just kind of make you look funny in a bathing suit that it's your personality that matters?

No, that's exactly why I singled you out.

I never said I disliked the girl. I said I disliked her actions. I won't form an opinion of her unless I actually meet and speak to her. Saying "I don't like this thing she did." is not a prejudice. If I said "I hate big titty ladies cuz they steal my respectz," THAT would be prejudice. (Not to mention terrible spelling and grammar.)
I believe.. No, I'm sure that you called the person a troll. In your earlier post.

I am probably one of the easiest people in the universe to get along with. (Thus why I said people are laughing. Not because I think you care, but because the image in my mind of a lion fighting a mouse is pretty giggle-worthy. If you actually meet me you will understand.)
I'm not a difficult person to find, I always show up at the forum meet, DC101 is a good place to get at me, ToxicBBQ... I'm around.

I have had plenty of life experiences which have led to my beef about unqualified women using their bodies to obtain positions of respect or authority. I am sure you have had life experiences that led to your sensitivity for perceived intolerance on web forums. I am willing to call this one. We can take it to PMs if you like, or you can come see me at Defcon. It may not be as fun as you hope though. (See above comment about lion and mouse.)
Honestly, I stop caring about the matter a while ago, though I always feel the need to respond on this forum. If, however it is really important to you, let me know and we can talk. As I said, I'm not difficult to find and will talk to anyone.

I agree though, as far as this thread is concerned, matter dropped and I'm sure someone will close the thread soon.

I singled you out because you did the "me too". One of my biggest issues now a days is people replying just to pile on someone else. And that's exactly what you did.

Do I need to hold up the mirror?
Of course not, I carry a full length mirror around all the time to remind myself of how hot am I, sometimes it's a curse. :sigh:

You have no idea what type of person I am.
No... After this post and the post before it (especially with the next line), I think have a very good idea of what type of person you are.

Some people here do, and they are most likely laughing at you right now.
Am I supposed to be sad or something that some random people may be laughing at me? OH NOES! It's the end of the world!

    Sorry about that.
Psh, don't be sorry, I'm not. And apparently you know very little about me, if you think I really care what some random people think.

Also.. Sorry you disagree with my opinion, but sadly prejudice does exist. Human beings determine their initial behavior towards each other based upon their own personal experience and education. In that way, a person who reinforces a negative stereotype DOES make it harder for a person who does not. Negative experiences change the way a person approaches similar situations in the future.
I'm sorry you feel the need to justify your prejudice and ignorance.

Do I wish we could all be like hexjunkie? Heck yes I do. :) That would rock.
If you want to be something different than you are, then make a commitment to it and begin the process of reinventing yourself.

I have no problem with this girl. It doesn't matter to me if she is a fake. It doesn't matter to me if she is flaunting her looks because she is looking for a nerdy boy. Nerdy boys need love. :) What I have a problem with is the way she presented herself.
And she apologized for that, yet you felt the need to jump on the bandwagon "Me too! Me Too!"

If what she REALLY wants is the respect of the other women in this community, she is going to have to prove that she can play by the same rules as the men.
That's one of the few things you said that make any sense.

Eye candy is fantastic, but it is the icing on the cake when you are talking about a community founded to bring together competent and creative individuals. Tough love. ;)
I would say I'd disagree with you on "a community founded to bring together competent and creative individuals" but that would be a topic for another thread.
