A pouch of stuff inside a bag of crap.

Usual stuff, laptop, camera, and every patch cable known to humankind.

Would the ABC Store in the RIV carry it?

I was thinking the same thing, actually. The only thing I used my netbook/phone for last year was for the distraction, checking mail, and idling on IRC. I deployed an IRC bounce to solve the latter problem, iPad will do mail just fine, and distractions? There's an app for that. Granted, I could sit and watch the wireless traffic scroll by on the netbook if I really wanted to, but honestly, it wasn't that interesting. Now I just have to find a bag small enough, and remind myself how it felt walking from the Marriott to the Riv midday in 108 degree weather.

Edit: Ah, map bags. That's what they're called. Thanks for the tip!

OOooooOOOoH, The perfect bag for you ( I see you have an Iphad In mind) Is a map bag. You should try the army surplus store. :-) Also, I have brought my laptop to the con for "just in case moments" every year since 13. I am leaving the s.o.b. home this year. I've never needed it for anything legitimate. I've always just used my phone to answer questions, look at spreadsheets, contact people, etc. I ALWAYS feel vulnerable leaving my laptop in the room or "safe" in Goon storage. So.. To answer your first question...

    I usually carry:

    Phone.
Back up battery or charging unit. ( charge it in your bag, don't have to plug into wall, these are awesome)
    Notepad & Pen.
    Program.
Body spray, lip gloss, emergency lady thing, etc.
    Chap Stick/lipstick.
    Deodorant- This is a MUST.
    Gum, candy or breath mints.
    Cash. Credit cards. Id.
Travel: hand sanitizer. ( I've just discovered travel size lysol spray, It's tiny small and OMG It's AWESOME )
    Band aid or two.
    Pain reliever.
    Pepto Pills.
    Anti-diarrhea pills.
    Bottle of Water.
    USB Drive.
    Camera.

That's all I can think of in my purse. I've carried much more in years past, but I think that will be it for this year.

    Hmm interesting post,

    I usually pack the following:

iPad this year to replace laptop
    DefCon schedule
Bottle of Jack and a 20oz coke
    Lockpick set
    Various picks and screw drivers
    Smokes
    Phone

    That is all

Everything fits nicely in the shmoocon bag from this year.... Btw thank you shmoo for the awesome MacBook pro 13" sized bag... It's quickly become a part of my wardrobe.

I had a ogio hip hop bag last year that was and still is a very nice bag. Timbuktu makes some awesome ones if you want to over pay for a bag. Think geek has a couple interesting ones too...jinx might.

I can't imagine needing anything else durring con really. Asside from the tools it's about all I have on the plane too.

I'm so sick of lugging everything around with me, done it too many conferences lately. This year I pack light.

    IPad
    Sprint overdrive for backup bandwidth
    Camera and small lens
    Snacks
Lockpicks if I want to play in the skybox

I'm not doing any contests this year, so no need for laptop. Worst case I can ssh where I need to work or test things.

I can do basic junk on the iPad terminal. Nmap, anything via python, air sniffing. I didn't think I would like it, but it's nice for on the go admin and testing work.

    Defcon Daily Carry

I was just browsing for a new bag for this year's con, and wondered what everyone else packs on their daily carry. Last year I packed everything into a black M51 engineer's bag and lugged that around for most of Defcon 17. Now, for those who don't know me, I'm pretty vertically challenged. That bag was freaking huge compared to me, and I suffered for it.

    In said bag last year:
    • Asus 1000HA (BT4/XP)
    • Moleskine Notebook & Pen
    • Defcon Schedule
    • Power Cords (iPhone/Netbook)
    • Rations (Drinks/Snacks)
    • 16gb Flash Drive (BT4 backup)

This year I'm hoping to pare it down to something much, much smaller. If these were on sale now, I'd buy one in a heart beat. Only planning on packing the bare minimum bug-out supplies and tech, as last year (as I was told I wouldn't), I didn't use the netbook for anything useful.
Working...
