Some rooms have this, other rooms do not. Once year when staying with converge and mfreeck, the front desk check-in knew some rooms had refrigerators, and others did not, but they claimed they did not know which ones had a fridge. I think we finally did get a room with a fridge, but it took a while.

As a snooty local, I somewhat hope people would eat elsewhere other than the Riv.

Last year, I noticed after ordering a WAY overpriced lunch at the Asian place that they had received a 'B' health rating from the local health district. Gross.

Also - Kady's. maybe a hangover breakfast if you're in the hotel, but again. you'll overpay.

Get out. at least at night when it's not ridiculously hot. a lot better things can be had within a 10 minute walk.

Any spots in particular you'd recommend, as a snooty local of course.. :)

Or at least a good direction to head from the Riv. I've never really done any exploring in that area. Most of my tribal knowledge of that area is from around Summerlin..

Also, I have been hearing good things about the British pub thats now in the Riv where the eye-talian joint used to be.

I return whatever i wish . Its called FREEDOWM OF RANDOMNESS IN A HECK . CLUSTERED DEFEATED CORn FORUM . Welcome to me

Walk? But that totally smacks of effort, and dealing with large groups of people in the outside world that aren't geeks.

            The horror!

I've never gotten a room at the Riv with a fridge yet so I can believe it took a while for you guys to get one.

That's it, I'm gonna search Craigslist for a mini-fridge. That way I am bound to get one in my room. :>

Oh holy crap why didn't I think of this. *facepalm*

yeah, the lack of minifridges in the rooms is my LEAST favorite thing about the Riv.

I've resorted to a cooler, before, but man, that is a pain in the ass. :/

Re: Does everyone just eat at the hotel during all of DEFCON?

A couple years back, one of my friends did manage to get a room with a minifridge in it. Guess it's just luck of the draw. Those 12V powered coolers do surprisingly well, if you're not in a big hurry.

The first couple of years I just ate whatever I could get at the hotel, but last year, I discovered the magic of leaving the hotel. Grocery stores are far, far cheaper, and there's an Albertsons so close by it pays to make a trip.

That's not nearly as ghetto as the trash can filled with ice I've usually done.

I've always picked up a cheap $7 styrofoam cooler from a gas station / booze shop and kept it filled with hotel ice. It seems to work very well in the past.

Regarding nearby eats, yes, please leave the Riv to get food. There's an excellent Thai place nearby the Riv. Near Alexis Park, there's the hole in the wall sushi joint next to the japanese food/porn shop, Hofbrahaus for a great German time (minus the scheisse) across from the Hard Rock hotel/casino (also nearby Alexis).

The peppermill, while not as cheap as say, McDonald's, if infinitely better.

I am heading down there in a few minutes, it is a better British pub than any pub I have been to back home in England!

Well that's a great change! Can you post a list of what they have on draught? From Dublin myself...

Couldn't tell you I'm afraid, all I remember there being is Fosters. There were quite a lot of people attending DefCon that were also in there last night, so if any of them are also lingering around the forums maybe they could tell you; though with how some of them were drinking I imagine they may also not remember much.
