Damn that's not a suite, that's rather small! I'm going to have to throw a hissy fit when I get there.

Here is a link to 7 pics of what they call the standard suite. Judge the size for yourself. It looks spacious.

I've stayed at the Rio once. The rooms are pretty goddamn huge, even compared to other "all suites hotels" like Embassy Suites. I don't want to toss out a number of people you could cram in one, but if people are content with floor space, let's just say you could accomodate quite a few people.

Yes rates have sky rocketed, glad I booked early.

I guess this is a good thing for the Rio and Defcon relationship. Their reason for wanting us there is to sell rooms so we will spend money in the Rio restaurants and shops (and gamble), Since they are close to sold out, Hopefully Rio Sales is happy because they know Defcon lived up to their responsibility / expectations of getting people into the Rio property.

Hopefully this will help smooth the way with special requests like using the parking lot (if needed for toxic BBQ or que up for Defcon Shoot) and make the facilities team of the hotel a bit more co-operative with the Defcon network staff, vendor staff etc.

The Palms is semi close as well.. and also Ballys & Paris have a free shuttle back and forth to the Rio, but I believe it stops running at Midnight.

While still super expensive, there is (As of 2 minutes ago ) a "Limited time 10% special! promotion!" from the Rio on Rooms, for those who want to stay on site...

uh.. did you negotiate that up front? I know it is legal in Nevada.. but not in the city limits.

The rooms are clean. The bathrooms are small. Some of the rooms have been renovated, but I'm not sure whether they all have by this point. It's decent. I'd much rather stay at the Rio, but I'm not sure I'd $250/night rather...

Gold Coast is directly next door to Rio, so it's just a walk across the parking lots - call it 10 minutes if you walk slowly or tend to weave.

Apparently the block of rooms for Defcon rates at the Rio has been sold out. The current Defcon rate shown during Rio registration is $399 for Fri/Sat and $99 for Sunday. This doesn't appear to be an error, I got confirmation from people inside Defcon this afternoon.
