  • how did it go this year? what about next year?

i was outside running Beer Cooling when this took place this year, but i'm really curious how it went. it sounded really cool when folk were chattering about it.

personally, next year i'd love to try to convince people that this would be a perfect event to pair with the BCCC happenings outside on that patio.

the duality of hot/cold and food/drink make a terrific match. and it wasn't all that awful outside, with the sun and whatnot. you have a whole weekend to stay locked indoors and remain pasty white... get a few bits of daylight as your DEFCON starts!
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

It was fun. Hopefully next year, we can do the home made stuff so I can come up with a concoction.
Thanks again Lope for running this.

Don't forget to bring milk for the lucky contestants next year. We had plenty (4 gal) due to the presence of a cappuccino machine but I don't know if I'll pick up that much next year.

Although I didn't see the competition, I saw the aftermath. Congrats to that guy and his new handle: h0tsauce.

We almost had to roll an ambulance for one attendee who had started to slide into shock after having way more of Da Bomb than a human should have at once. I'd say if you are going to do this contest again, put some guidelines around consumption. Hell, a toothpick dipped into Da Bomb is enough, folks don't need to be encouraging over-consumption.

I return whatever i wish . Its called FREEDOWM OF RANDOMNESS IN A HECK . CLUSTERED DEFEATED CORn FORUM . Welcome to me

I've had a bottle of Da Bomb in my fridge for years - all you need is a few drops to make a whole pot of chili extremely hot. I couldn't imagine eating a large quantity of it straight.

I think I'd encourage people that "hottest" isn't going to win them anything. it's "best". Just making it "hotter" is no longer a challenge - just add pure capsicum.

What was the number 8 sauce?
I tried a good dose of that and it sorted me out...
Worst of all, it took me over 10 minutes to get a beer afterwards.

There was one sauce that had extract of pepper. That may have been it. It was so hot that as soon as I tasted it, I felt the burn go all down my throat. That was a little scary. So, I drank a few ounces of Mango Jalepeno and I was ok.

I hope I can judge next year as well.

I do advise no home brews, and no extracts of pepper. We want hot sauce, not mace.

Thanks to Lope for running it very well. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

I definitely enjoyed the contest and hope to judge next year. I consider myself lucky to Not have been the first to sample the particularly nasty goo that looked like old motor oil. Tried a drop on a chip, then promptly spit it into the "airsick bag" that I brought along for such occasions.

I have to agree with the "no home brew" sentiment, even though it kinda feels like taking-shoes-off-at-the-airport-pussyness. I was really pleasantly surprised with most of the entries; hot is good. Much thanks to DJ Jackalope for a fun time!

Re: how did it go this year? what about next year?

Vandal was a judge for this. He drank some "pure extract" that was not announced as such prior to a tasting and it sent him into a shock reaction. Couldn't breathe, nearly blistered his mouth and throat, spent fifteen minutes on his back on the floor behind the Scav Hunt table flushed, sweating and shivering as his body attempted to deal with the capsaicin overload. He likes hot but not that much of something intended as a flavoring instead of condiment.

Hotter isn't better and shouldn't be the point. Or, if there is another of these, and "hottest" is a category some Fing warning in advance of the contents should be mandatory. The amount included in a tasting doesn't have to be so large in the "hottest" category.

                      Our two cents.

On combining the contest with BCC, I think it's a good idea. Heat outside won't effect the hot sauce tastes and a good cold beer (along with some real relief from a dairy product) would go down a treat I am sure.Seeing the BCC contest this year, however, I would suggest that, after combining the two events, a bit more organization in the form of a little crowd control and a judging table be included. It was hard to catch a glimpse of things outside at BCC due to the generalized gathering in a circle around a machine that was going on.

To help address problems with bad ingredients, sauce that is too hot, and other related issues, why not require people submitting entries to drink a teaspoon of their own entry immediately before judges try them. Anyone not willing to consume their own entry can have their entry disqualified. It is not a perfect solution, but would likely help reduce risk of something similar in the future.

That is a really good idea. Would a stand in be acceptable?

If for some reason an applicant can not taste their own sauce, as long as they have a designated stand in that is willing to taste it when needed, would that still work in your opinion.

That h0tsauceguy would be me!!! Never again trying Da Bomb hot sauce unless off a toothpick. I would like to thank any1 involved in helping me out, it was devastatingly bad how I snapped into shock! Thanks again to all the goons, organizers, & DT for wanting a cappuccino machine!
