Re: military veteran meetup
There is no 'technically' to it. Look at their emblem and on their ID Cards --
Department of the Navy, United States Marine Corps.
btw - it's Army, Navy, Marines, Cost Guard, (Army Air Corps) Air Force in order of date of creation.DaKahuna

Re: military veteran meetup
For those who haven't already seen it, courtesy of Nikita: http://www.gofundme.com/w2tyw
I have to tell you I was absolutely floored when I found about it, and amazed at how far its gone. The goal has far been exceeded so the rest will go to a veterans charity (TBD)."\x74\x68\x65\x70\x72\x65\x7a\x39\x38";Comment

Re: military veteran meetup
I was waiting for my new-meat lurking period to lapse to be able to post Nikita's link...
If you haven't read it, stop what you're doing, and do it now. Yeah, you heard me. Stop now. Read.
To Nikita, I can't say Thank You enough. I, too, was floored by your effort and moved by your words. For a lot of us, this is waaaay outside the norm, (I'll leave it at that...), and is greatly appreciated.Comment

Re: military veteran meetup
I was bummed to find out that my DD214 has gone "missing" since the recent breakup of my marriage. I fear that this all important document is in the belongings that were removed from the home, or worse, was maliciously destroyed. Either way, I have started the long and arduous process of gaining a replacement.
However, for the Meetup, I did find a copy of my orders for one of my Awards, and plan to bring that as proof of service.
Hopefully that will suffice...
If not, I can also bring VA letters of Loan Certification, and some other loosely associated documentation.--- If you're a snowflake, you're gonna have a bad time.

Re: military veteran meetup
Also,
For those of you who have Unit Coins, that you have EARNED, PLEASE BRING THEM.
We plan to have a contingent of folks that are bringing their coins, not to brag, but to get a group photo shoot of the coins you have in your collections.
Please, as there is no way of knowing how a coin was obtained, be truthful. We plan to have several different photos taken of the coins, and we are thinking of the following categories:
1. Earned Coins (AD) - coins you earned while on active duty. (not after active duty please)
2. Earned Coins (CIV) - coins you earned after active duty.
3. Traded Coins - coins you traded for
4. Gift Coins - coins you received as a gift
5. Collection Coins - all other coins, gifts, or purchased
Some of you may have some great stories around your coins, we'd love to hear them.
I'm looking forward to bringing my solo AD coin, and the rest of my collection. Sadly, I don't have any great stories, as I was simply a Chairborn REMF.

dc0de, if you are a poser then the world is lost. I trust you. For posers that want to come by and tell us their MOS is classified and spin a good yarn, expect to be buying booze for us and doing push ups all evening. :>Comment

Re: military veteran meetup
Just to be totally clear, there is nothing required of you to get into the military veterans meetup, other than to actually be a veteran or active duty (US or otherwise).
I am thinking about letting non-veterans, who have donated/do donate to the tab/charity, come in maybe an hour after the meetup starts. On one hand, I'd like to keep it relevant to veterans, on the other hand, it only seem fair to allow donors to stop by if they wish. Thoughts?"\x74\x68\x65\x70\x72\x65\x7a\x39\x38";Comment
