    Re: DEFCON Documentary updates

That's a good question. I know we've already had this conversation, but I won't speak on DT's behalf on this, just because a man is welcome to change his mind. I wouldn't mind seeing it made public, personally. But it's really DT's call in the end.

Jason Scott has said in the past (but I'd have to dig for quotes, and may be wrong) that he wants to put most/all of the raw footage of the interviews, etc. for his documentaries (specifically BBS and Get Lamp) online for others to mine and re-mix as appropriate. Personally, I think this is a great idea, as the subjects of these interviews and documentaries might not be available much longer.

My question for you (Russ and DT) is this: as the apparent rightsholders for the footage, would you be interested in doing the same at some point (maybe a few years down the road), so that others might be able to build on this?

Feel free to reply privately, if warranted.

Thanks, BK. I can always count on 303. It's being worked on actively, and constantly. And it will be epic.

On the other hand, this gives me even more time to prepare for my mind being blown, so this can only be a good thing.

    Hi Deviant,

While I'm sure much of your distress has to do with the fact that you want to see your gleaming, cheerful smile talking about the DC Shoot, I'd ask you to breathe easy for a bit. The rough cut of the film is being targeted by the end of January. When it came down to it, we simply had too much material to go through and categorize in order to release this by Christmas (which was the original deadline).

The rough cut will be reviewed by DT and I, with changes happening for the several weeks after. We need to get this done by March so we can start the process of putting together the "box set". Due to the amount of footage, and the variety of different topics that can't be covered in the free film (time and size restrictions), Jason is busy creating "shorts" that will be included in the box set, only.

Anyway, that's the update. And inviting people to "correct you" if you're wrong, sounds like a terrible idea on this forum. Just saying. And at what point are you "past the point" of being able to think it's coming along nicely. It seems pretty shitty to be complaining about something that Jeff has paid for as FREEBIE for the scene.

If you need to chat more about this, you know my email address.

    My 2 cents.

Deadlines are deadlines, and if they are shifting or changing it'd be nice to just know the new estimates.

Again, i'd welcome anyone letting me know that my memory of the closing ceremony is wrong. But i think that i surely can recall telling a lot of folk back home excitedly about the documentary and how we would all be watching it this winter. If i am incorrect about what i recall us being told, i'm happy to be corrected.

So, those who are on facebook and can therefore see the news posts... are you familiar with the new target date for release?

Jason Scott talks about the documentary occasionally on his Facebook page. Seems to be coming along nicely.

    DEFCON Documentary updates

Hey, is there anyone in the know about the DEFCON Documentary and how that's coming along? back at the closing ceremonies for DC XX the official line was "it will be out in time for the holidays" and that was even described (unless i'm insane) as meaning "in time for Thanksgiving and beyond" (i specifically thought i heard "late October" stated, but i'd love to be corrected there)

Well, since that deadline (if it was indeed the plan) is totally blown, i'm wondering if anyone from DEFCON central can comment on the new target date.

Back at the start of November, the DEFCONdoc twitter account promised "regular timeline posts" and showed this image...

... but then there were no updates after that.

The preview video that came out at Christmas was pretty cool, but when i spoke with Jason on Twitter about how things were going and asked about progress of this and other work he kinda just snapped at me, so I haven't bothered him with any more questions since then.

Can Jeff or anyone else comment on what we know about the documentary? Can anyone who knows Vegas Pro look at that image and tell what it's supposed to represent in terms of percent complete?

The preview was truly gorgeous-looking and has made me even more excited than before about the chance to show the final result to my family who has long wondered what it is we do every summer out in Vegas.
Working...
