Well.. I know I had a yagi for the drive.. among other decent powered antennae that were present. I also had brought an AP that sat completely unused; not to mention the large number of private wireless networks that were going on, disconnected from the defcon network. The technology was there to do it, it was simply not organized.
Hell, if one person per couple buildings were given a catv drop into a main switch, and from there they each hosted a WAP, the external antennas would not even be needed. Sure, it will get partially or completely hacked... but so did the dc network. It's their loss if it is taken down. And with a good core of people interested in keeping it up, downtime could be limited.
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

1 word, sniff. i used the wifi network at the con, and even though I was using ssh, ssl and encrypted email... I still didn't feel safe ;)
LOL, I know exactly what you mean there... anything that was used on the WAP immediately got a password change over a modem connection... and even then I didn't feel safe :)
I'd bring a few extra drives, but I'm gonna have enough problems explaining 2 laptops, a pda, wifi cards, and probably a few antennas to airport security :)

and misc other stuff I would imagine.. one reason driving to vegas always sounds better and better :)
Heh, one time in my life driving to vegas was enough for me... it's one thing for you guys in SoCal... it's a totally different thing for those of us in Missouri... That took 22 hours for the drive!

blah, you didn't check to see how far away you were from defcon before you moved there eh?... a mistake quite a few make ;)
My room was in BFE, but I was sharing in the con bar! As for the stuff getting past airport security, tell them your scanning for explosives and helping them out.
Heh, I think that's on the list of "Very Bad Things To Tell Airport Security". If my stash gets grossly excessive (which it most likely will) I may just fedex it to myself at the hotel.
