DEFCONBOTS will be returning in 2014 after a 5-year hiatus.

The competition will be a real version of tower-defense. Competitors will build autonomous robots to shoot lasers at moving targets on a track.

The competition was previously run by Kallahar, from 2002-2008, and with his blessing it's being revived.

I neglected to mention in my original reply... The DEFCON Shoot will return again, for sure. Had a fellow write to ask me about when the forum will open up for planning, etc.

They were supposed to go up 2 weeks ago, but I have it on great authority the Admin responsible for that (me) was busy over the last 2 weeks, and the few time he had time to do it, instead wimped out and slept, that lazy bastard. ;-)

This weekend is my next planned time to roll them out. Sorry about the delay.

In about 1 to 2 weeks, I plan to roll out forums for all of the above announced contests/events, as returning to DEF CON 22.

Remember, just because you have a forum, doesn't mean you have a green-light from Pyr0. As soon as he has info and deadlines on how to apply, I'll send an email to each of your forum-registered accounts to remind you about this and where to go and any info related to this process.

This option is only open to returning contests. New contests will have to wait until the process for application through Pyr0's department (contests and events) is announced.

Forums follow his decisions, so if he yanks a contest or event, I close the forum for it. Get him to agree to allocate resources for a contest or event and I'll make a forum for it.

DEAF CON will be back.

As someone whose recently, over the last year, had to start dealing with and realizing I'm partially deaf.....I can't thank you enough and wanted to say ya'll are awesome!

Skytalks plans to return, preferably with everything on-stage fire-resistant.

Skytalks were probably my favorite part of DC21. It had really great content and a chilled out atmosphere. Content was so good that I had deep internal struggle to catch a Skytalk vs some of the other speakers. Very glad this is coming back. Will volunteer for "Skygoon" anytime (I'm short and quiet, but.....).

I'll let Beni post herself when the word is 100% on her end (since she is the official organizer now) but you can be very confident that DEAF CON will return. it was a terrific experience this year.

Oh yeah, we are. I replied a day after the thread was made. Also, found two (possibly three?) interpreters already committed to DC22.
