  • Where my authors at?

<quote>The contest is now open and will close Sunday, June 1st, 2014, 00:00(midnight) LOCAL LAS VEGAS, NV, TIME ZONE.

People choice poll will be opened on June 1st and it will close June 7th, 2014 00:00(midnight) LOCAL LAS VEGAS, NV, TIME ZONE. This will be a "public" poll, with results viewable by all.

All winners will be announced on forum June 14th, 2014.</quote>

Last year a major complaint I heard was "not enough time!" So I gave you six months.

Last year, in the short period of time you were given, I received more than a dozen stories. This year? Where you all at? Like the CFP submissions, judges need time to read and digest your meaning. Don't wait until the last day. Polish it, send it.

I'm not begging. This contest is for you. I am only a facilitator. This is for you to shine, to show your writing chops, to entertain your family of geeks, to win free entry to the longest running hacker con in existence. You don't want to try, that's on you. But I am rooting for you! Don't let me down.

You have one month. There will be no "automatic" wins simply because you are the only choices. You don't want to participate in this contest, there will be no contest. We don't give consolation "thanks for coming to the playground" prizes.

Working away hard here, just didn't want to submit something early and unfinished.

Quick question, can a single collaborative work be submitted from two authors? Or is only one author name accepted per work?

Usually with these kinds of things and contests, when it is possible, the prize(s) remains the same; so if the prize is one badge, then the "winner" get to decide which one wins the badge. There is a long history of this with many events, and attempts to defeat game rules by having many people join a team.

I do not run this contest, so you will have to wait for an official response from the person running it or the judges that are judging it.

The person running it has been quite responsive on this, especially recently. If you see no reply from her within 48 hours, I can let her know there is an open question on the forums.

                    HTH, Good luck!

Thanks very much for the response! I wasn't looking for a way to game the contest or to ask for an exception to the rules for prizes or anything, I just wanted to submit one story that I wrote with some help from my girlfriend. I figured since we created the story together it wouldn't be fair to list only one person or the other as the "sole" author. Still, if the contest would run better with just a single author I can do that, too.

We're coming to DEFCON regardless and thought the contest would be a lot of fun, winning a prize would just reduce the cost of one of our tickets. :) Sorry it's taken so long to write but I'm looking to submit tomorrow or Saturday.

Hello! My apology for late reply! It is perfectly fine to credit multiple authors and should the story win the multiple names will be published per contest rules. The story is a single entry, however, and is still only eligible for the single prize. One story, one badge, no matter how many authors, based on prize set up rules. Clear?

                        Thank you for the question!

Crystal clear, that's exactly my thinking, and thank you for your reply! We just finished up and submitted it in the requested format to the gmail address. Now to deal with the anxiety from waiting for the voting.

Edit: same here, if you could give confirmation that your received the story okay I'd appreciate it. :)
