Re: HHV #7 is over and we need feedback!!
I would like to see more kits like others have mentioned already. Some of the kits I saw last year were mainly through hole beginner type stuff, which is needed, but I think it would be good to have options for people who want to learn more advanced soldering skills like surface mount.
It would be nice to have more workshops/talks on hacking circuits, hardware trouble shooting, the tools used for both, and building/modifying circuits.
I didn't spend much time the HHV this year because I was excited about the Crypto/Privacy and ICS/SCADA villages and the HHV room was always packed. At DC21 though I built a Darknet badge and one thing I really enjoyed about it was helping out some of people around me, some of whom had never soldered before. I have experience though my job training people to solder surface mount and through components so I want to volunteer next year to help people learn soldering.Comment

Sounds Great!! Keep you eye out next spring for when the DC23 HHV forum opens and I will be asking for volunteers. Your right SMT stuff is where its at but we need more people helping others out as the goal is to have someone be successful in their kit build not a big fail which is against what we are trying to do.
DC 23 we plan to start moving further along away from soldering 101 to more advanced stuff for those that want it. of course we will have help for the never soldered before folks but like you said helping someone next to you is exactly what the hhv is about. I welcome your help next year.
thanks for the feedback.

Re: HHV #7 is over and we need feedback!!
I might be rolling out DC 23 forums next month. From the poll ( https://forum.defcon.org/showthread.php?t=14027 ) people seem to want that. Usually, I wait until the main site publishes information about the following DEF CON before opening up forums, but the main site has dates for DEF CON 23 already published.Sounds Great!! Re: HHV #7 is over and we need feedback!!
Having a list of the components so we could have spares would be nice, but the main defcon folk seem to think that would be "leaking info about the badge" ahead of time, so nobody ever gets it. Same deal with prototyping boards designed for the badge. If you want a prototyping add-on board for this year's badge- I've already cooked one up: https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/ffKXFJne Files are open source, and I make nothing if you order one from oshpark, everything goes to them.
Agree that better signs are needed. I'll volunteer to make them.@Six_VoltsComment

Re: HHV #7 is over and we need feedback!!
I'm not adding anything other than an additional voice:
1) more space
2) more vendors
3) more parts
4) better signage!
5) I'd say "mo betta", but with Bombnav's work, the darknet badge bustle, that just keeps happening anyway
Again, I know I'm not adding anything new, but I wanted to add to the feedback.TSA luvs my Uzi.

Just to let you know, that same 5 yr old girl took her Larsen scanner into her Sparks (the first stage of Girl Guides) for show and tell. She was agahst that one of the 5 year olds didn't even know what soldiering was :)
Thought you'd get a chuckle. She still brags about it to anyone who will listen.
Thanks for her memories, and we'll see you again this year!

[I am not part of the HHV] Thanks for the feedback. We will soon be closing the old DEF CON 22 forums. We do have a forum open for the presently open DC 23 forum for the HHV: https://forum.defcon.org/forum/defco...acking-village
