As for the harsh ground, we now have a mallet in the official DEF CON Shoot supply bag, so maybe that will help folk out.
Lolz, I know that guy! Thanks for the name drop that was a good video clip (the can/skeet shoot @ DC23).

      Two questions regarding your video:
      1. Are you bringing your can lobber?
      B. When is the DC24 gun built/repair/upgrade/mod event?

likely this won't be a thing this year, simply because i can't imagine how to find the time and space. i thought about it a lot...

Idea 1: do it at the DEF CON Shoot?
Rebuttal 1: too much going on, too much noise, can't talk without ear pro on or with ear pro on. no power (easily)

Idea 2: at the Shoot but at night?
Rebuttal 2: too tired, too cold, no light, no electric, and a billion other reasons

        Idea 3: before DEF CON?
Rebuttal 3: i'm running trainings at Black Hat right up until the Shoot

        Idea 4: after DEF CON?
Rebuttal 4: i do TOOOL wrap-up all day Monday, returning shit, closing out rentals and accounts, shipping stuff home, etc. no time.

Idea 5: ok ok, two days after DEF CON?
Rebuttal 5: yeah, right. no one stays in town that long except the few of us who are awesome (DEFCON in Expert Mode means leaving on Tuesday, just so you all know) and that still won't work because i'm going to another casino and hotel with my g/f and her father to play poker and sit in hot tubs

Idea 6: what about at DEF CON itself, then?
Rebuttal 6: ha! i suppose you aren't aware of the fit that Ballys/Paris security threw last year when i had all my guns. we spent a long time checking them in at the security office, etc etc. it was "the most firearms a single guest has ever had here, we think" they told me. so, yeah, no guns in general in the hotel and Jeff surely wouldn't want a ton of gun parts just in the main con space.

now, if i'm wrong about that last one, maybe we'll have the "AR Village" in a future year. i don't expect this, heh. but if that could happen, i'm down.

personally, that sounds much more like something that could take place at the 303 Hotel. daaaaaaamn, that THAT would have been an idea.

next year, i say. next year.

          Yippy on the lobber!

I was afraid of the other answer was going to be as described. But I agree, all options are tough. Perhaps we could have a build party at the airport while we wait for our shuttles? :P

Besides just taking a long time were they hostile? Or just upset they had to do the extra work? I didn't have too much of an issue checking mine in with them.

My suggestion would be after the shoot thrs. We have light, most shooting stops within 100 yards or so (we could maybe even move further away). I know a lot of people go to the toxic bbq or other events, but I can go to a BBQ pretty much anytime. I'd probably skip events thrs afternoon to go to a build party.

that's fair... they weren't hostile, they just took forever. and i prefer to have all my stuff in my room, personally. :-) it wasn't a bad process. no one was around when i was leaving in Tuesday, however, so i burned like 45 minutes on my way out the door trying to get them all back. build that into your time table if you're getting to an airport, folks.

that might be the best time window, but since i'd want to set aside 4 hours or so and have an indoor venue, etc.

i just don't have the bandwidth to get that together this year.

These got ordered today, will add another one if the number of lanes increases above the current 10.

just a quick announcement, as mentioned on Twitter and elsewhere, pre-reg is shutting down today. probably in an hour or so.

all lanes are filled, and we have a nice batch of pre-reg shooters. as always, cash on-site is still an option for anyone who wants to show up on the day-of.

pricing on-site is $25 for shooters or un-free folk (sorry, no discounts like with pre-reg, but un-free folk can still have a special un-free badge for as long as they last) and $20 for military folk. please have exact change as we're out in the middle of a goddamn desert and this isn't a really polished retail operation or anything. no, we do not accept foreign currency, PayPal, BTC, or bartered goats if you don't have US paper money.

i might accept bottles of whisky depending on brand and variety, but this is not a guarantee. (ok, chances are GOOD, but i don't want to guarantee that a party of four can show up with a plastic bottle of Banker's Club and expect to all get badges)

speaking of cash on site... remember to bring cash (again, in small bills like $5 or $10 if possible) to spend on ammo if you're hoping to hit some other folks' lanes where they are letting people rip through magazines or belts on their personal lead accelerators. trying other guns is free... other folks' ammo is not.

Shoot pre-reg is shut down. (I've simply zeroed the inventory in PayPal)

congrats to R.S. who was the last person to jump on that before we closed up shop.

i fly to ShakaCon tomorrow, then go directly to HOPE, then i'm back in Montana for about 10 hours overnight mid-week where i'll drop off old gear, pick up rifles, and head to Black Hat the next morning. See you all out at Lovell Canyon road after training days wrap up!

For the past couple years I've stopped by home depot and bought a hammer and staplegun to assemble my ghetto stands, then shipped them home. I'll try to leave them for the range bag this year.
