  • Let's get this party started!

Hello, World! Parties at DEF CON (for the most part) have migrated towards uber private invite only types of events. This has occurred mostly due to costs and limited venue spaces.

I am thinking- maybe we should flash mob parties a bit more this time, given that its a new venue, there is a massive pool space, and an even more massive casino (heh, no, I'm not saying mob the casino and get thrown out- heh, maybe do a bluetooth headphone party at the sportsbook?). There have been quite a few mobile parties at DC, I'd love to keep this guerilla partying tradition up.

I wanted to throw those ideas out into the ether and wanted to make this thread a kind of place to throw ideas out for such fun. I know most of the mobile partying is an organic, just happens sort of thing, but is anyone planning on bringing a mobile rig of some sort this time? or?

      Alright, here's where I'm at

This'll be 10 years of DefCon for me and I'm looking to do something a little different and would definitely be down for some guerilla partying. As far as a mobile rig goes I have an S4 I'm planning on bringing with me, even if I don't have an opportunity to DJ (you never know when you might need it). If we can get power, speakers and a platform, I'd definitely be down to share.

I'm thinking that there's gonna be lots of opportunities for mobile guerilla choonz in the big wide main hallways in the convention center. (Granted, I don't know what DC and the hotel will/will not allow). I'm just here throwing some possibilities out. I know there's some guerilla choonz crews out there reading this! ;)

Defcon 21 was fantastic with the Defcon pub row. And the old Black & White ball was fun too. There has to be a way to play music loud and drink lots of alcohol...

sigtrap - I totally agree, DC21's pub crawl and party rooms was sooooo much fun, I especially miss the bouncy house!

Zfasel and I are trying to work out a mobile party rig for this year..... but not sure if we will be able to fully pull it off in time (it might involve me driving it from Chicago to Vegas or attempting to build on-site that week).

We're hackers, I'm sure we will come up with something (or maybe the 949 crew can sync their speakers and someone can have a road case on wheels for the decks?).. but we NEED rad lighting too! :D .... and as I'm typing, I feel Ceasers getting upset with me already!

New venues never know what to expect, we'll just have to teach them.

Zuggy- keep me posted on plans. Looking forward to some late party nights. Maybe I should pack up a few rolls of LED rope lighting and some lasers for the flight over? Don't have any sweet lighting rigs I can bring. Packing lite for the plane.

Will do. I generally don't make too many firm plans, I'll probably hit up DC801's party on Saturday, but even that's up in the air at the moment. Basically if we got this thing rolling I'd commit to it before too many other things.

Edit to add: If you can bring some lighting (even if it's just LED rope and/or lasers) that would leave us needing speakers and if we go mobile, a platform. I've been thinking about that second point. If we're not putting out too much power, couldn't we see about renting a mobile scooter and wiring in an AC inverter? It would need to be non-destructive.

Always enjoyed the Black and White balls. I haven't been since DC22 ... am I reading that there is no longer a massive event for Friday and Saturday nights? The hall of parties at The Rio was a cool setup. Do we not get the same now that it's at Caesars? I find it kind of amusing that after Blackhat is handed off to a new organizer, and then moves to Mandalay Bay, DefCon then moves in to Caesars a couple of years later.

Toxic BBQ on Thurs might be a good place to coordinate, build and test. We don't have music lined up, Fry's is right down the street, and we have the park from 4-10PM.

It would give me an excuse to actually check out the Toxic BBQ this year, so if everyone else who wants to be involved is in than sure. As for the music, I know a few people who will be at Defcon and BSides who might be willing to play depending on their schedules, and I'm kind of hoping Jackalope can do the same (play and help line some people up). My ego is also big enough that I plan on playing some, but not so big to not be willing to give up my spot to someone more talented and/or interesting.

Working on some sort of chat setup to start up this weekend so we can figure out what we want this to actually be and then start figuring out logistics.
