This may be a stupid question, but any hints? I initially thought maybe steganography? Perhaps the text at the bottom was a password of some sort......I got nuthin' though

Sure, are you on the first page? What have you tried? The text at the bottom is important. Always look at the source of pages as well ;)

it it a single level puzzle - eg has a direct solution? or is the solution actually another puzzle? i ask because ive solved the direct puzzle. im just not sure what - if anything - to do with what i got.

Look at everything carefully. Usually ciphers lead to a word that is used to build a URL, list lostboy.net/60062/[decoded cipher]...
Also, if you are new, always check the webpage source code, there are hints.
