Wired : Voicemail Hackers Phone It In

Ok who wants to email Michelle Delio and ask her what year this is?

    Voicemail Hackers Phone It In
    http://www.wired.com/news/print/0,1294,58517,00.html

Here's how the scam works: The default passwords that SBC issues to new users of their voicemail services are in a specific format and are easily guessed.
it's no fucking wonder they have that splash ad on their front page... they need to bring in money somehow because they are losing so many of what readers are left in the world...

sigh... I thought we had her reformed...

    maybe a slow news month

    my favorite is:
"One is just to mind fuck with someone just because they can," said Sweeney. "But I also know that hackers will set up conference calls this way to discuss various 'business deals' at no cost to themselves. They might have set up the conference ... and just left the line up when they were done -- it's the victims' dime, so why bother stopping it?"
I was under the impression that wired was too classy to post full quotes, including expletives.. not that I'm offended, but impressed.

So many voicemail accounts, so little time.. I think it is pretty defacto for every cell phone vm, office vm system.. The quote about the lady not being told to change her password was pretty lame. Yeah, DMV never told me I have to break in front of a brick wall either.. just follow their other rules and I'm sure I'll be fine
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

It is amazing that people could be so lazy as to not spend a few minutes changing a password when it could end up costing them thousands. Or they think hey the company bought it for me it must be secure. This is why companys send thier security people to defcon. :D

I read this to a buddy in the cell phone business. He said when he started his default password was "yesicanhearyou"

                  Scary.

Hmmm..., i dont know my own passwords, but i everytime can login ;). I thing that passwords like "bgtujmnhz" or "739146825" or a other (much better) system on your keyboard are the best ;). U can remember it easy and i dont thing that it will be easy to guess.

I tend to stay away from any sort of password that has a pattern to it. I just use a random password generator each month and change all my passwords.

chances are it is a pseduo-random password generator... and try putting two of those side by side sometime ;) some things were never mean to be "random". :D especially when it comes to the human brain :)

I like to take the first letters of a short saying sometimes for my passwords, that way there random and easy to remember.
