I wouldn't think so, last time I checked modern POS' don't have an Optical Card Reader/Writer...
                http://www.lasercard.com/tech/technology3.htm

The optical card reader/writer is an external SCSI II device. It is accessible in network environments including Novell, Unix and Windows NT when connected to a PC running DOS or Windows NT with LaserCard Systems DOS/Win3.1 or Windows NT device drivers.

The LaserCard reader/writer access time is 3 msec on a track-to-track basis. Error-correction-code is applied during writing to ensure a written data error of less than 10-12, the industry standard for data storage devices such as diskettes and hard disk. Each 4.1 Mbyte capacity LaserCard has 2583 tracks and supports variable sector sizes on a track-to-track basis. This allows the LaserCard to store multiple applications and still have room to add, update and archive files.
Though who knows what the future holds when it comes to the NID, and the NIDB...
