  • Ride Share from Northern Idaho/Eastern Washington

Yeah, I know, no one lives here but me. I have a car, but not the gas money. It's a really cool Dodge Dart, and lots of leg room, and a HUGE trunk for gear.
I'd be leaving Thursday to get there Friday. No driver's license needed to ride, just gas money. And some sort of parental permission in writing if you're under 18. I'm paranoid like that. =)
I'm in Coeur d'Alene, but I'm willing to pick up from Spokane to Missoula, or anywhere along the way south, or even Moscow/Pullman if you either want to pay for the gas, or get to CdA.

Heh. Missoula. I'm amused that someone even knows where that is.

Yeah, but do you need a ride? =)
And.. Living in Coeur d'Alene, Missoula's .. well.. if I want to go east or south, I have to go through there, unless I enjoy bad roads and long trips. hehe.

          Ride Taken

Actually, someone's coming here from .. portland? western washington. I forgot, but it's someone I've known on irc for a while. He's gonna leave his car here and go with us. So the ride's taken.
But I'm still open for a caravan, if anyone's leaving Thursday and going straight through, like we are. I have some wrist-watch frs transievers.
*yawn* bed time.. work in 4 1/2 hours. Good Luck!

Not from Missoula, hahahah! I just remember where it is from my days up in the land where white shit falls. ;-)

It's just odd to hear it mentioned as a point of reference, being one of those little towns where if you blink, you miss it, heh. We came VERY close to being volunteered to move there... *shudder*.

Hey! When you live in Couer d'Alene .. Spokane and Missoula ARE the only reference points.

And a couple of 24 hour grocery stores. WOO!

We're leaving late Wednesday. No more real room in the car. Caravan would be welcome, though. Sorry. I kinda.. spaced lately.. on the forum.
get me at jorwyn@cuodan.net if you are interested.

Hey, i am from Idaho as well. southern ID. 2 of us are going. we are leaving thursday as well. and we hope to get there thursday night. We found a really good rate on a hotel. up to 4 people for $59 for all of them. so thats like $15 each a night. plus a free shuttle to Alexis Park Hotel where defcon will be.

possibly we could somehow meet up to caravan down there. what do you think? get back to me.

Party of two leaving from Boise early Thursday morning (before dawn) so we can beat the late-afternoon heat and check-in to our hotel early enough to make sure we get to choose a room with optimal wireless reception. ;) Oh, and to pre-reg of course. We can comfortably fit two more if anyone in the area or along the way is rideless, or if others who will be passing through Boise around that time want to caravan.

Are you guys planning on sticking to the freeway the whole way and heading down around through Utah? We were dabbling with the idea of just avoiding Mormon country altogether and heading straight south through Nevada on Highway US-93 with two brief pit-stops in Twin Falls, ID and Ely, NV for gas/stretch/refreshments. Its 140 miles shorter distance-wise than the Interstate-15 route, and I'm hoping we can go free-way speeds on those deserted back-country roads and cut the trip down by a couple hours as well.

yeah, we were going to take the I-84 route through Utah, because we don't know how to get there and that is the only way we know for sure of how to get to Las Vegas, It won't be so bad going through Utah, But it sounds like we have enough people in Idaho going that we could have a small caravan of a couple of cars.

Well, here's an idea... for those who have FRS radios, how about just tuning them into Channel 2, privacy code 08 (or 462.5875 Mhz for those who have scanners) and just give a shouts-out or occasional beep as you pass through any "town of size" as you drive through Idaho? We live close enough off I-84, we'll be tuned in and respond if we haven't left yet, and perhaps we can link up.

We'd be willing to take the longer I-15 route if we had a definite caravan and other parties to bullshit with along the way to pass the time. But we definitely plan on leaving Boise sometime pre-dawn on Thursday, meaning we'll probably hit Twin Falls just after dawn, before deciding whether we want to continue along I-84 to I-15 through Mormonia or just take US-93 directly south from there through Nevada, so if you're passing through around that time, tune-in and/or announce yourselves and we can decide after we gas up there.

I'll have my scanner listening too, so even if you don't hear an immediate reply, its quite possible we're outside of transmission range but can still hear you, as I can pick-up FRS conversations quite a bit further on the scanner due to the antenna. If you're planning on stopping to get gas, just announce where to give people a chance to link up. We'll do the same.

Oh, and of course, if you see a car driving along or at a gas-station with one of these on the roof:

Try signaling on 2-08 as well. ;) We'll leave our radios on for the duration, just in case.

well, possibly we could plan a place in boise to meet pre-dawn thursday, (and i mean WAY pre-dawn) then we can caravan from there. possibly the Boise Town Square Mall in front of the Food court entrance or something like that?
