Other things to do in Vegas besides DC?

I know last yr there was a Star Trek convention while DC 10 was goin' on, talk about total geek, the planets and stars are aligned.

But what are other things that folks are going to do or see while out in Vegas and not at DC?

Here is a bar/club that a few friends of mine when to last year and it was the talk of the group for a few weeks after. They have a website.

I'm sooooo glad to see that you have such an interest in DC that you can find such an extensive listing of thing unrelated to DC....did you consider just telling your wives and bosses that you were attending and puchase the badge then vacate for the duration? I don't think anybody would notice.

My interest consisted of one google search: events, august, vegas.

I think something to consider... Vegas is there 365 days on a yearly basis... defcon comes but only once a year for 3 days. Do as you wish, but my weekend is spoken for. Everything else in Vegas can wait for the times when defcon is not in session

dataworm: defcon starts friday, blueman is thursday, my attendance for the show is not coincidental

Last year I didn't have much cause to leave the hotel (busy binge drinking and yelling at strangers), but I expect to get out and play some blackjack during the lulls at 11. Getting over to the Hard Rock only takes a few minutes on foot, and the casino floor and bar are usually littered with wayward defconites. Considering all the casinos, shows, and restaurants in the LV, finding a good time isn't difficult.

I fly in on Wednesday and fly out the next Wednesday. Gives me a little time to see Vegas while devoting the weekend to the Con.
If I need a break, the slots/blackjack at the Rock are really convienent.

Other Things In Vegas

I live in Vegas and I can honestly say there isn't anything better then Defcon on that weekend. But just incase you want to know...

The Hardrock Hotel is near by, if you want to gamble and drink I recommend going there. Alexis Park is far enough away from the main strip that you don't want to be walking Harmon Ave drunk back and forth.

If you are into the Trek thing, the Las Vegas Hilton is a short cab drive away and that is the center of all the Trekky action. However that is far enough away from the strip, that you wouldn't want to walk from the Hilton to the AP or the Hilton to the main strip drunk.

The closest main strip hotel on the strip is the Aladdin, which is on the corner of Harmon and LVB. Once you are on LVB you have all the major hotels and the major attractions; Blue Man Group and the Luxor, Siegfried & Roy at the Mirage, Danny Gans at the Mirrage, Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo and even Celine Dion at Caesars.

Anyway... your better off staying between the Alexis Park and Hardrock Hotel if you want to save on cab fare and don't want to die of dehydration.
