I know. My thinking is that if it were on the upload server, it eliminates the need for everyone to have compilers just to test their results, and eliminates upload corruption as a possible issue. It's just a thought.

Well, one thing that is an acknowledged (by me anyway) mistake from this past year was using wi-scan extended. I actually apologize for that. It was kind of a legacy that got left over from the year before. Next year, I am thinking that we will have everyone do a summary export using netstumbler. The kismet folks can use warkizniz to convert, then export it with netstumbler. I see the problems with this already, but the only other possible solution is to limit the software that can be used (i.e you must use Netstumbler or you must you Kismet) which isn't going to happen.

People had a hard time converting to wi-scan extended through no fault of their own because of a bug in warbabel that wasn't discovered until right before the contest started. That is why the different format uploads were allowed. I still didn't think the conversion issue was going to be what it was.

All that said, as has ALWAYS been stated, every bit of data we got will be made public. Con still has some of it (mainly day 1 stuff and the "bad" data I believe) and once he ends his drive from hell, we'll get it online so everyone can see the issues they may have had.

As for whining, you have to understand that there has been a SIGNIFICANT amount of whining because of the LA data ruling, which turned out to be a non-issue since that data was never scored/received. But even though it was a non-issue some members of some teams have refused to let it die. That is where the whining comes in and THAT is where I get irritated.

If you disagree with my decision...fine, so be it. But it isn't like the bitching now, 4 days after DefCon is going to change anything. I stand behind the decision I made and would make the exact same one if presented with the same set of circumstances in the future.

I agree. I was pissed about the LA data, but since that was excluded, I got over it. I'm really just trying to learn as much as possible about the results. This year I decided last minute to enter, and didn't expect to win going in to it. I just want to be ready for as many issues as possible next year so I have a good shot at wining. I think taking native logs is a great idea, and should be welcomed by just about everyone participating.

I'll anxiously await the "bad" data to see what's up with mine.

Thanks again for putting up with us "fucking whiney little bitches."

okay... I had to open up a gnotepad to jot down all these posts... good friggin jehovah guys! don't any of you need to recover from the con as much as me?

              EdiT:
yes, all logs sent to the dump server, provided by disc/disk, directly uploaded to my box via crossover, or provided on flash media were counted. There were even a couple instances where I noticed the disc was unreadable or whatnot, and contacted the team to give them fair chance.

I personally like the idea of making next years log process similar to the WWWD that Chris and ffrf kicked ass with. One box with a php interface, private network for wardrivers only. The box could have a php for processing example scores on the spot, with official results being handled by the scorer. Things were a little buggier than expected this year because of conversion bugs that were brought to my attention the DAY OF THE CONTEST! :p ... so please consider the following:

Please test all your tools beforehand, and highly consider helping with opensource projects if you have spare time. In my entire time wardriving the state of Maine, I had never run across some of the AP names that wreaked havoc at DC.

A sidenote about the scoring script should be noticed: Although I used the script to some extent for my own satisfaction, ALL SCORES WERE MANUALLY COUNTED AND CALCULATED. I simply didn't trust my script enough in light of the warbabel bugs.. being that part of the scoring code uses wi-scan classes from warbabel. I wrote up a few calc-fu scripts on site to clean logs issues and whatnot, but all scores, all GPS coord issues, all cheat review, was done personally to the detriment of my sleeping pattern.

              HighWiz:
thanks. It is growing a little old, but I can understand all perspectives having been a contestant last year myself :) I just hope people had a good time driving, are willing to assist in criticism to build a better contest for next year... and shall I reitterate something from another thread..

              YOU GUYS OWNED VEGAS MAPPAGE!
              Awesome job guys.

              Chris:
I would personally prefer the ns1 format being the standard... it gives us flexibility to do what we want with the data, and conversion is solid. We own the keys via ffrf code, so we can really run with the idea, if so desired. The #1 time consuming thing this year was log formats / log management / log source (ie dump serv / disc / local uplink). Once they were all in the same in each team folder, the scoring was easy.

              LA Data:
I really have no clue where this log went... I assumed that it was in the bunch of that team's logs when I processed them around 3am Sunday... but this was a bad assumption. Bottom line, the WiGLE team kicked all your asses hardcore, props to them for a solid team and effort.

I now urge all of you to go sex up the wizard... let me sleep
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

Well as most people already know, Blackwave is running the contest next year. I am just going to be providing assistance where/if asked. I will gladly make all WWWD scripts available should they be requested..but don't forget, BW has a little Code Fu going on hiz own self.;)

If he wants any of my stuff it's his. If he wants me to back the fuck off and let him do his thing that is all good as well. Pretty much I am happy to help however I am asked, but because of some staff changes I will be too busy wiith other responsibilities to give my full attention to the contest.

First of all, Team WirelessCon wants to congratulate the winners, The Lords Of Wireless: Bobzilla, Arkasha, Mentat, Hratch, and BigEzy. God job and an awesome score.
