    Blame canada!
    Blame canada!
For the powers out at last,
Stuck a lightning bolt up my ass!
    Blame canada!
    Blame canada!
    Blow those fuckers up hooray,
The worlds IQ was raised that day!
    Blah, blah, blah.

Anyways, I live in Vegas, and was in best buy when this happened. Everything went off...and we are not even on that grid. All the demo machines shut off too. When they came back up, it had a "Can not connect to master domain" error on the screen, every demo monitor in the store. I was so happy...

Tonight I burn a candle for the sys admins that have had to endure msblast and now a major power failure, with the inevitable power surges to follow over the coming weeks.

              Be brave.

Much of Midtown Manhattan and Wall Street was shut down. All area airports and the Long Island Railroad were also affected.
HA, thats an understatement if ive ever heard one!@
the ENTIRE city was down -- everything in all five burrows, people had no idea what was going on, no tv, no internet, nothing except the occasional car radio. the subways stopped dead in the middle of the tunnels, people had to walk the fucking catwalks in the subway tunnels to get out of the station. there was nothing open because everyone was trying to get the hell out of nyc. my dad was stuck in ny ... he walked over to the ferry only to wait in line for 4 hours until they got themselves sorted out. power just came back maybe a half an hour ago, it was too much like 9-11 for my taste. they declared a state of emergency in NJ and called in the national gaurd. fuckn crazy.
**only looting that was reported happend in bklyn, i think something like 20 people were arrested looting a shoe store
                shit happens, get over it.

so i'm watching cnn yesterday and NY mayor michael bloomberg is having a press confrence. He is telling everyone in New York to turn off their air conditioners and such as it will help the power come back online faster if the load is not at 100%. now with a few exceptions, WHO THE HELL WAS HE TALKING TO, how many people in new york do you think were able to watch any television without power. Granted maybe a small percentage could, but only if the television stations were even able to broadcast. WTF??

                      Detroit side of things

Well I live in Michigan, about 2 hours north of Detroit and it was a bitch here, they kept saying on news radio that there were towns that were back on full power, the towns they were talking about never lost power to begin with. It was hotter then a bitch and humid. NOT a good combo for our daughter that has asthma. Gas stations had over a 3 hour wait for gas, minor looting, etc. I just stayed up all night with a 12 gauge just to be on the safe side in case any of the local punks decided to make a visit thinking that we wern't home or something.

Just got power back about 1/2 hour ago. One real good thing, my servers never skipped a beat at the data center, most of the ppl that I talked to on my cell was still able to get to the sites and also the e-mail server.

While I was watching the webcast I had the same idea, "when power comes back dont turn on the air cond." I was sitting there thinking, if they dont have tv, how do you plan on alerting them.....maybe they all have pocket sized radios and can hear it or something, it was all just to let the rest of the world know that the news reporters got a good story that day.

Whenever some weird like almost disaster (i know "almost") happens like this, I always wonder if its such a good idea to do HUGE news broadcasts and stuff on the news...

Its like we're broadcasting big open invites for "terrorism".

Its like the Geraldo jackass giving away military positions or whatever in Iraq. (I personally think they just took him over there to see if they could kill him by accident.)

Does it suprise you? You can fart in an elevator and people will mention 9-11.

Thank god it did not happen during the con, or we would be getting the blame..
