    Alright

    My Shit list:
    Compaq
    HP
    Gateway

    Now for the good stuff:
You can get a Toshiba 1955-s803 for about 1800$ on ebay, if your to lazy to look it up its a p-4 2.5ghz, 512ddr, 60gb(5400rpms?), g-force 4 440 model 64ddr ram, LCD matrix touchscreen(way cool for a laptop), Wireless built in keyboard(damn cool), and remote control(compatabilty problems with windvd),

For just a damn nice cheap laptop go www.internetishop.com. They don't make the best laptops but for the price its worth it. Infact its down right hard to beat their prices. The downside is, sightly bad cooling system, and no operating system or thiz linux pre-installed.

Well, I finally went out and bought myself a new lappy, the toshiba 2410...or similar. 2ghtz moblie p4 with 256 ram and a geforce 420 go, runs like a charm, so I can play GTA3....:D Only small problem is the lack of a serial port, but this is easily substituted with a usb to serial connecter, which I gots to go buy. I am impressed thus far by toshiba's laptops.

In my current crapola job we sell HP, Compaq, Toshiba, and Sony. Toshibas by far are the least retuned/serviced make that we carry.

Found this today, not a powerhouse, but looks fun no less. And a quite reasonable price. Now I just wonder about the quality.

And Alienware... Lifetime of upgrades (free labor, you just pay for parts) sounds like one HELLUVA deal if you ask me.

          laptop suggestions....

i'm ordering a new laptop in the next week or so.
(ast, this doesn't affect our buisness....)

i have some ideas in mind, but i'm taking suggestions.
i like unique stuff. i would gladly trade speed for style, small size, or originality.

this is for autoCAD but will run a external monitor, so size is not an issue.

must be no less than 700mghz.
i like mac OS, but need to stick to microsoft os's for school compatability.

          what should i get?

[i have owned an IBM TransNote and a Sony PictureBook. this is the kind of originality i'm looking for.]

Autocad is essentially a heavy duty vector drawing program with LISP. It also requires special drivers to take advantage of some of the functionality. If you're going to run 3D Studio, you will probably want lost of memory on both RAM and video.

So go for something with a highend graphics card and something that can take plenty of RAM. A fast processor would also be helpful. Check Autodesk and see if they have any hardware recommendations or an HCL.

I would go to nvidia and ATI and search for which laptops use the graphic chipsets. nvidia also has the quadro 4 go, which is the professional chipset, you might want to look into that.

                      Toshiba Satellite 1905-S30x

I really, Really, REALLY love my Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 (base model of the 1905-S30x series). P4 @ 2.0GHz, 15" LCD, ATI Radeon Mobility M6 (128MB, IIRC), CDRW/DVD-ROM. Integrated 802.11b (screen-loop antenna) is available. Only thing that sucks: no serial port. Otherwise a really kickass little machine (I love the seven-minute kernel builds).

                        8.7 functionality
                        7.8 overall

I got almost the same model, just with 256 ram and the neato nvidia 420 go. It runs everything really nice, games, *inx. I have a small problem with the not as powerful BIOs as my old HP, but I cant win every battle. Paid around 1400 for it with tax.
