yeah i would like to see that commercial too. I know of an SBC commercial that had a "hacker" in it, they were trying to show that they bring in these people to test their networks before anyone else does. Ill put it up later.

I think I've seen the cisco commercial in question on tv once, the SBC one I haven't...
The double standards are kind of lame. But it's nothing new, Just them talking out of both sides of their mouths *gasp* you mean that really happens :DLast edited by windwalker3579; October 13, 2003, 09:55.Ich Will...

Actually one would think that persons in the IT/Security field would appreciate hackers. I know I envy the talent that they possess. If it weren't for hackers, security consultants would have no career! It is my opinion that most IT persons respect, and admire, hackers. Hackers are very intelligent and well educated as most of you know. If anyone hates a hacker...they are just JEALOUS. :)Comment

You obviously have absolutely no clue what a hacker is do you? If you did you would realize that the existence of hackers has nothing to do with the continued employment of security professionals. I have not seen a clip on the net... but this is about my first time to fart around on the net in about a week. It is played on the History Channel, and (I think) MSNBC in the Memphis area. I will see if I can find a clip, or dig up my TV card and catch it. Of course, I watch maybe 4 hours of TV a month.. so that could be a bit tricky.Originally posted by hackajarWhere is the demographic that they are showing this commercial? Or better yet, is there a net clip?Happiness is a belt-fed weapon.Comment

Ooops! :(Originally posted by ChrisDon't make me get loopy up in here.
I guess I could be wrong. I was under the impression that there has been a rise in hacking attemps into corporate networks. Therefor the need for network security has risen in the last couple of years. That is what they tell us in class.
My professor is a Security consultant. When he speaks of "hackers" he sounds as if he is one. I dont have a clue about hacking....how could ya tell?
Seriously. I like you guys. I don't wanna ruffle any feathers, just wanna learn as much as possible. :)Comment

Hacker--Someone who, through either knowledge or trial and error, makes a modification to an existing piece of software, made available to the hacker community, such that it provides a change of functionality. Such change is normally a benefit. Rather than a competition, the exchange of improvements is most often experienced as a cooperative learning effort.
Criminal--One that has committed or been legally convicted of a crime
Note Hacker != Criminal
No feathers ruffled, just understand that what the media calls a hacker is not a hacker.perl -e 'print pack(c5, (41*2), sqrt(7056), (unpack(c,H)-2), oct(115), 10)'Comment

You are so right about that! There are lots of commercials that portray the hacker as an evil mischevious person that tries do nothing but bad to the corporate world. Cisco, for example, has a commercial showing these 3 guys that are being arrested. One performed a DOS attack. I always kinda thought that type of an attack was ususally done by script kiddies, not hackers.
Can't an IGMP response be disabled anyway?
Perhaps script kiddies should be targeted as the BAD GUY. LOL!Comment
