I was just watching Good Morning America and they were talking about the worm (seems like everyone is). Bill Gates put up a $20mil bounty on whoever wrote the thing. A Dallas business man put up another $5mil. It looks like the witch hunt is on. I have heard that the virus is set up to mutate on Feb. 12 as well. Who knows what it is going to do then. Does it open the backdoor upon infection, or after the 12th? I can see the kiddies using some kind of mass exploiter to scan for the open ports and set up shop..
As for SCO.. fuck 'em. Karma is a bitch. I don't agree with what someone chose to do, but I feel no sorrow for SCO because someone chose to do it.
Update: Good nuts and bolts info on it here:Last edited by Gadsden; January 30, 2004, 08:34.Happiness is a belt-fed weapon.Comment

I wasn't going to post, but I felt the need to say this.... Lay off the crack pipe. Those who are not aware feel that Microsoft is immune to everything, and they're not by any far stretch whatsoever. Lets do the math... 5.2million infected as of this morning... and we'll say they'll all running on a 28.8k modem, and getting 2k/sec.... that's 10400000 k/sec... and most are on 56k, pushing 6k/sec as a minimum... lame businesses with no real IT on business DSL can push 3mb/sec up and downstream and there is an ungodly amount of cable connections that exist in the United states and overseas(cable avg from many bandwidth places I avg'd just a short while ago are pushing 1.2-2.9mb/sec. Now onto trunk sizes... after a bit of research, I have learned that there is *NO* OC-192 in downtown Chicago, so microshaft headquarters cannot be on OC-192 in any form. I think your view is completely flawed and you need to open your mind to the way things are as a whole, how they will get smacked and many innocent networks will suffer in the process, as sad as that is.

I don't remember were i saw it, but microsoft was building a massive token ring if you will. They had several data centers around the country, each one tied into a backbone. They were talking about ungodly amount of data movement. If anyoen knows what i'm refering to, post away please...
On another point...
Imagine this one....
20 million infected computers.
Zombie clients set up to do nothingmore than 1 packet/sec attack speed.
Thats' a lot of fucking distributed packets attacking one place. I don't care what your bandwidth is.
Reason is, with the example of the 56k modems and attack MS, you're forgetting that you have to take into account MS avg bandwidth usage. I would guess they ave 50-60% full time usage on their lines.
Last summer when the blaster worm hit, I coldn't connect to MS update here at work fr a good 2 days or so. That's how hammered there were, and it wasn't a DDOS attack.--Shatter

Can anybody tell me anything about a worm called Apsiv.A? I ran a Google search but can't find anything useful.

I'll field this one, I've dealt with it firsthand - It spreads through kazaa, it would have been a nasty worm, but the one who wrote it cant code, or used a virus generator to do it it appears... It is supposed to delete the file wpa.dbl, the hardware configuration and activation state database of Windows XP system file, when the day on the system date == 6 but it does not do so, most of the routines within the code itself fail, a few pass, but I'd give it a threat rating of 0 on a 0-5 scale. Infected file size is 417,792 - drops the file _sys.exe to the \system32 directory and has associated registry keys. If you require more info I'll be happy to post, just hollerOriginally posted by Floydr47Can anybody tell me anything about a worm called Apsiv.A? I ran a Google search but can't find anything useful.
