Well I was slacking this year and just got around to reserving my room for Defcon. Here are some details for those that might want them...

There are about 200 rooms left. They will be gone soon as reservations have been picking up speed.

For the standard suite it is $129.10 but comes out to $140.61 after taxes and whatnot.

They raised the rate for the suite with the loft and hot tub on the stairts to $225 before tax, although I usually get this room I told them they could keep it for that price.

You can cancel your reservation any time up until 3 days prior to the conference. That means if you get in Thursday the 29th you have till July 26th to cancel. Friday the 30th and you have until July 27th.

Thought you might want to know. Over and out.

But if you cancel, they KEEP your deposit, right?

No, they are not supposed to keep your deposit IF you cancel 3 days before the start of your reservation.

According to the last discussion I had with them (Friday), if you fail to cancel 72 hours beforehand, they will charge you one nights' stay (the deposit).

Sorry if this is alread answered somewhere,
How much is the deposit? When I reserve a room today, they charge you just for the deposit now? And then the remainder at check in time?

        Thanks...

The AP informed me that you would only be charged on the spot for the first night + tax, and the remainder at check in.

So, that is better I guess than having to pay for all night at once.

The phone number on the site kept dropping on me.
I did however find another one that got me though.

Hmmm I thought they just put your credit card on file then charged you at check out.

I was concerned about being charged for every night at once, like now.. big money for those rooms.

I am sure that credit card number stays at their fingertips ready to charge for damage to the room.

That would probably be a good question, what is the worst damage you have seen to a room? vs the bill imposed.

                    *ouch*

Yea, a great question would be, "I had a party in my room and someone broke the lamp, how do I find them and get them to pay for it since the hotel wants me to pay for it?"

I have heard some absolute horror stories regarding installation of new bathtubs and what not.

The deposit to hold your reservation is one night's stay. The problem that converge was referring to is how much they "hold" on your credit card. The last time I stayed at the AP (dc10), I stayed for six days. They authorised my card for the balance of my stay PLUS $100 a day to cover incidental charges and damages. If you're staying the weekend, this means that $200-300 is being held on your credit card. Most hotels hold more than the cost of the room to cover incidentals, but I've never had one hold $100 PER DAY. They also don't tell you how much they're authorising it for. I didn't find out until I went to get dinner after checking in and found that I only had $6 available on my card, thanks to their $600 above the cost of my room that they were holding.

Buyer beware. They're not charging that as a deposit or anything, but if you're close to your limit and you're counting on the price of your room plus $100 or so for extra authorisations, you could end up in the same boat I did.
