One of the bestbuys i was at sold only one CPU fan, it was below average in quality, not a name brand, and sold for $20.

I heard a rumor that Bestbuy got cracked last week by someone who used to work for them.

I am curious where you heard this rumor, they got hit in 99, and again in 02 - I have not seen anything in the way of bestbuy getting hit again, if they did I'd blame the IIS they refuse to patch...they appear to be running IIS 4.0 on NT 4.0 as of Dec 4th, but as we all know, some have a bit of intelligence...I am not saying they do, but they may have gotten a bit smarter since the last time they got drilled.

I have never asked the guys at Best Buy a technical question, but the few times I have had to return something, they have been great...and I live in Maryland...where the definition of service is "Fuck You, that's not my problem."

The definition of service here in CA is, "Look shithead, I am here because I need the money, go get on the freakin' Internet and research your own problem, then go the hell away so I can talk to my friends."

Here the conversations go something like this

Me: "Do you have the Usual Suspects in the back room? I can't find it on the shelves..."

Clerk: "No but if you had Netflix you could rent it on Netflix it's really cheap and you can rent whatever you want and there's no late fees so you should sign up for Netflix right now"

Me: "Uhh, shouldn't you go... check on a computer or something to see if you have any copies?"

Clerk: "I know we don't have any copies because I know everything in our inventory but you should get Netflix don't you hate late fees and expensive rental rates Netflix gives you unlimited rentals for a flat monthly fee so buy Netflix!"

Me: "I already have that through Blockbuster, and they're within walking distance of my house so I don't have to wait weeks on end for DVDs to arrive. Now look, do you have the Usual Suspects or should I take my business elsewhere?"

Clerk: "We don't but Netflix does! Buy Netflix! Netflix!"

              Me: "Goodbye"

Clerk: "Netflix! Netflix! Netflix! Where are you going? You didn't buy Netflix yet! Come back here and buy Netflix! NETFLIX!!!"

              Me: *gone*

Yeah, I hate it when stores, not just best buy, try to give you "free" things with purchases, because you know that in the fine print that there will be money in it somewhere for the store. I also hate when they try to get you to buy other things, even though you've told them multiple times that you're only here to buy a certain thing. Damn big corporations.

How about when they push their own credit card. No interest or payments until 2008! Everyone approved! Yea, and every other commercial on the radio is for a bankruptcy attorney. You and I end up paying for those freebies in the long run.

If you don't believe me, look at how much cheaper gasoline is at the stations that do not take credit cards.

                    Retail Exp

Since most people like to point out the worst and not the best I will do both.

                    First the good:

My Best Buy Store is fine. I've had no issues with them.
PC Club is also very good in the Pasadena/Monrovia area.

For Non Retail I really like newegg. www.newegg.com and they are selling a lot more stuff other than just computer components.

                    Now the bad:

I hate Fry's and CompUSA as far as service and warranty hassle and being treated like cattle.

If you really wanna get hosed in price and get heavy sales pitches Good Guys are also not so good.

As for extended warranties: No problems with either Best Buy or Good Guys.

I only get the insurance on PDA's, cell phones and items that i will carry with me and knowingly abuse thru everyday wear and tear and dropping.

CompUSA isnt bad when u have a friend that gets things whole sale and im talking like 100 cd-r's for 2 dollors or a 8000 dollar plasma hdtv for 3800

                        Best Buy's return policy

Let me tell you about how *great* best buy's return policy is. I met someone once who was remodeling their kitchen. She was a really nice lady. Working mother with two kids. She was in the middle of remodeling her kitchen and buys a built in stove from best buy. They told her, "Oh it's back ordered, it will take three weeks to get here." "Not a problem, the floor won't be finished until then anyway" the woman says. ...Three weeks later, "the stove you ordered is still back ordered it is going to be another week and a half until it comes in." once again, "Oh that's OK, I'm still waiting on the cabinets." four weeks later the stove is still not in. so this woman tells Best Buy that she want's to cancel the order.

Even though she has not yet taken posession of the stove they refuse. It has been more than thirty days since she bought it. They tell her that their computers will not allow them to issue anything but store credit. The store made promises that they could not keep, and she had not even gotten the merchandise she had paid for. When I met her she was about to sue them to get her money back, no one in the company would listen to her at any level.

I will never buy anything from these jerkoffs again after I heard this story. talk about bad customer service, this one takes the cheese.

                        fuck best buy

Simple3, if she used a credit card she would have recourse through the credit card company.

When all else fails, cry. It worked for this chick I was in line behind. She bawled, they gave her free ink cartridges and a usb cable and sent her on her way.

I have a friend that works at Best Buy and even though he offered me discounts on several cases , I refuse to shop there. In New York, we don't give a shit, but especialy in department stores. My friend that works there is honestly very rude to the customers, he's very sarcastic, though he does bag your stuff fast and works the register quite well. Most of the employees walk around as if they are customers ,planning out which cd or DVD they plan to use their store discount on next. You'll ask them about something, and they will know minimal things, like for instance you might ask them about a printer, and they'll tell you how many pages it prints in a minute but as for compatibility, they will simply look on the box and go "Uhhhhh, well it says here that uhhhhh". Oh yeah, and the worst section is the car radio section. If you don't find a worker picking his nose or scratching his ass in public while customers are waiting, you'll definately find them playing extra loud music on the sub woofers. Ha.
If practice makes perfect, but nobody is perfect then why try?

I went to Best Buy with a couple friends right after it opened here. We were looking at CD's when this saleswoman walks up and drops a stack of fake money on the ground behind them and says "excuse me, did you drop two hundred dollars?.

At that point I walked away and next time I saw them they were buying a year-contract to MSN dial-up at like 23.95 a month. They were geeky metalheads and she was a cute college girl, it was an easy sale! :D
