Nibowin is looking for a tub to sleep in, just so you know.

Seriously, a BBQ would be nice. I hope we can pull it off.

I'm thinking that with UNLV nearby there has to be a public park or something around that would serve our needs.

Mappoint shows a few community parks in the area. Anyone local care to do some scouting?

.... and anyone care to stay sober enough to cart everyone's drunk ass back? (Sorry.. I have said I would cook since last year, but I have said nothing about staying sober.. ) :D

Has the cookout idea gone the way of the Dodo?

I looked at some aerial maps online of the area near the AP and noticed a field about a block east of Paradise. It looks like there is a dirt area next to a grass area, but I cannot tell much more than that.

Also, last time I was there (several months ago at this point), I noticed that they had just cleared the lot of what used to be a mobile home park near the AP on Harmon, but they had not started construction and had not fenced it off. If this is still so, this may be an option.

Both of these were within 10 minute walk of the AP...so driving will not be necessary except for transport of the bbq's, food, and beverages.

Of course, I am not local, so both of these spots could be null. Someone in an earlier post asked about a local doing some recon. I'd like to do this and will donate a steak and beer to someone who can recon these spots or find another close spot.
Ya got no legs, don't come crawlin' to me.

I honestly doubt the fire department would have to be informed of a bbq.

I'm down with the cookoff, as long as I can import Alberta beef :D.

Well there is a park not far from the AP that has quite a few BBQ's and plenty of places to sit eat and drink, and the fire dept won't complain. This type of event I definitly think it would be suited for the wed or thurs before the con. I believe siviak and myself can help arange for some of the transportation of people to this BBQ.

                          |Benifits|

-bbq's are already there, you only need to get coals
                          -pleanty of room
                          -no permits to worry about
-Not to far from the AP or any other hotel for that matter
                          -trash cans are provided
                          -threre's a playground

                          |Cons|

                          -Not at the AP
-you may have to get a ride or take a cab

Thats what came to my mind but Im not sure if anyone else wants to add to this.

I think this park would be the best bet, there are plenty of grocery stores and gas stations for beer, food and supplies. Im going to talk to Siviak and see if we can organize somthing.

Would I be jumping the gun to propose a new polling thread to vote on a day?
