    Cost of gas before Defcon

According to www.gaspricewatch.com, gas prices are averaging $1.76/gallon nationally for 87-octane at the time of posting. From what I heard on KNX 1070 this morning, prices are expected to continue to increase through the summer in addition to the usual summer gas price gouging that goes on.

Thus, the poll: what do you think the national gas price average will be at 12pm PST on July 26th, 2004?

Yeah, I've heard that too. Thing is, while it hasn't got any worse, it's held at $2.11 here for the last couple of weeks. What's scary is that the $2.11 is for the car that takes 87, while I filled the car that needs 91 last month (Feb. 14th) for $1.85.

In short: we're getting shafted, as usual. And taking it, as usual.

One nice thing about gas being over $2/gal. It keeps the crappy cars off the road!

I dunno... I still see the same 1985 Toyota Corollas with blown rings/valve seats belching smoke on the freeway every day.

                As of 03/23/04

FYI: Gas prices at record high

                From:
                The Associated Press

"WASHINGTON — The retail price of gasoline hit an all-time high Tuesday — nearly $1.74 per gallon nationwide — reflecting strong demand, tight supplies and the high cost of oil, AAA reported."

Skroo, it looks like some of us should have voted on a higher rate than what we did.

I hope the rates don't go up too fast.

I remember when gas was a buck. Candy and stamps were 25 cents. At this rate of inflation gas should be $4/gallon.

True, but remember that the rates can go down as well as up.

To be honest, though, I'm not holding my breath on that one.

                        costco has 87 for $1.99.

what is funny is that if you go by the mobil refinery in torrance there is a mobil station right next to it that has the highest gas prices. you would think it would be cheaper since there is no traveling cost.

There is a website, gasprices.com or something, where you can post the best prices you have found. I filled up for $1.99 last night, the prices are coming down, or so it feels.

Gas in my little town is only $1.51. I thouht it was kinda high, I guess I have nothing to complain about! I think its past time to use alternative fuels.
