  • DEF CON 12 Homebrew IP Appliance Contest Announced

Just in case you haven't checked the Defcon site, the rules for the Homebrew IP Appliance contest have been posted and can be found at the url below.

    http://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-12...appliance.html

Please spread the word. I'm in the process of putting together a few pages with an FAQ, resource links, etc and will be posting it within the week.

So what are the prizes? Do the winners get to trash the losers equipment?

1st thought -- tcp enabled coffee pot
2nd thought -- wait & see it'll be our submission, but look for fiberoptics, embedded controllers and VGA out all attached to funky breadboard design...

what are others thinking about for submissions?

Hmm ethernet to a toothbrush. Not sure about that, maybe a vibrator, but not a toothbrush.

Kelvin made the hardware, and made it work, at DC11. Now he needs to write code for it.

I'm working on gathering up the prizes right now. We're hoping to have something small for everyone who has an entry and then some main prizes for the winners. I'm just hoping that it's not a little too ambitious since it seems everyone who comments on it say "I can't wait to see what other people enter" without any mention of making an entry of their own.

Anyway I know a few people are working on stuff to enter so hopefully we'll have an ok turn out.

                    TCP/IP electronics question...

Are pre-fab boards like SitePlayer (www.siteplayer.com) ok to connect devices? (I'm talking the bare board, not their total solution in a box) It does take some design/code/work to connect the devices together...

                    Just curious.

                      Intent to enter...

Just emailed my intended device. Not sure if I needed to post here or not, so I am. And there was much rejoicing.

You can use the electric toothbrushes as a vibrator.. Trust me on this one.

                              Yes, pre-fab boards are fine.
