AP sold out; chances of picking up cancellation?

Damn me and my procrastination!

Now the AP is completely sold out. The legendarily-curteous lady on the phone informed me that they're not taking names for cancellations, and I should basically play roulette and call back "periodically."

Am I screwed? Should I start looking for love elsewhere? When is a good time to try and pick up a cancellation room? (I was thinking perhaps closer to the con would bring more luck.)

The last 2 years I grabbed a canceled room from random people in #dc-stuff on efnet.
I don't know if subjecting yourself to #dc-stuff is worth a room :)
(You can try #dc-forums... but as the name suggests most of those folk are on here also.)
This year I did the smart thing and got a room early... seems I'm getting all responsible in my old age.

People always cancle

Call AP and ask what time they will be releasing the cancelled and no-show rooms.
Also if you looking for a cheap place to crash that is close to AP try the Howard Johnson (airport).
