  • DC: Forum Meet ?

Is anyone out there crazy enough to host a forum meet in thier suite? Should we all just go meet somewhere off AP property on Friday before the perma drunk sets in?

My vote's the Office Bar if we can find transpotation.

That is the jist of our un-official meet on Tues. night. The official forum meet has more restrictions simply because of time. A good number of goons are active members of the forums and a good portion of us will be working during any potential time slot. By having the meet on-property, we can allow everyone to attend and keep it part of the rest of the Defcon activities.

Prior discussion placed the Defcon Forums Meet on Friday night. Do the Defcon staff know enough information about scheduling yet for a time to be set? or should it wait till close to con when schedules are more set?

I for one enjoyed last years meet in the room.

I like where there were MANY informal meets (Tues. Pool 2), but the official one during con, onsite made sense for those who get in friday morning, don't know faces yet, Goons busy working etc.

I do think we should have an event or something at the official meet. I know last year it was the place to be to check out everyones local/home brews.

why don't we keep the homebrew tasting a running theme? seemed to work great last year. =]

I like that idea.. and I also vote for a meet in on eof the small confrence rooms just like last year... who's with me?
If I had a nickle for every time someone offered me ten cents to keep my two cents to myself... I would be a rich man.

                  Forum members/CON attendance questions...

This thread makes me wonder, how many lurkers are here in the DC forums? Because the subset of the number of people who post here vs. CON attendees seems to be *really* small...I'm just curious, it would seem like more people who attend DC would post here....(how many people attended last year? 6000?)

Looking forward to meeting some of you.

I know people who post on these forums, who have never been to Defcon, and have been posting on threads for over 2 years. If they ever decide to attend, they will know a few people.

It's harder for some people just to intergrate themselves even after seeing how things run.

But then again 2 years =\...

                      btw...

o_0 is anyone entering the film festival? I am almost completed w/ my film, and the question people on the film site still havent answered a couple of my q's.

Sort of. I think there are significant differences between most of our online personas and what we are really like in person. If for no other reason, then because most of us are sober when we post here (with a few notable exceptions!) but won't be at the con. There's also the matter of recognizing people that you have formed online friendships with. Those who posted their pictures will be recognizable and the forum badges will help, but it's still very different to actually meet someone face to face for the first time.

I guess I'm one of the people you refer to. I attended DC X but missed last year. I didn't meet very many people 2 years ago and probably wouldn't remember those I did meet, so I'm looking forward to meeting some of you this year!

I'd think like most message boards & mailing lists there's a substantial amount of lurkers... myself included

If anyone is wondering, the details for the official forum meeting will be posted in the near future. It will be on the Alexis Park Property, and it will be on Friday night.
