ndex, apparently they had extra staff for the defcon time frame. And as you can see by my pictures, the staff goes around kissing DC gals and flipping us the bird!

If they go back to normal staffing after defcon then they cannot handle the load.

Greg was a nice guy, the Deputy Dawg declred himself in charge and an emasculated Greg accepted it.

I've had numerous discussions with individuals on how to have a successful poolcon (e.g. one that isn't shutdown WAY to early). Some of these ideas have included;

-telling anyone who is obviously wasted to go back to a room and rest for a bit instead of passing out by the pool
-having ppl who do not want to drink monitor those of us who do - keeping us from ruining the decompression session for all participants

Anyone else have any ideas?

So we should have bartenders? It's dificult with BYOB party's because there is no regulation of alcohol, I guess the only solution is to have designated watcher's and make sure that everyone knows that when they are 86'ed they are ouuutta there! Oh yeah and starting the party later is a good idea too.

Option #2: don't drink so much in the first place that you end up nearly comatose. Honestly, I drink a *lot* at Defcon, but if you're getting to this point you've got a problem.

Also, note that the drunk people who get into this state are surrounded by other drunks... So assuming they even get noticed in the first place, if they are evicted they'll just go somewhere else and get tanked-up - and that could end up a lot worse if they go somewhere where nobody notices that they're choking on their own vomit.

Self-control, people. I'm all for getting liquored up and having a good time, but don't damn near kill yourself in the process.

I guess wha I was trying to say is that when somebody tells you you have had enough that you should realize its time to chill, but yes you are correct self control is what is in need. I too drink excessivly at defcon and I think I will slow it down next year so that I can atleast make it to the wifi shootout registration. I guess we all learn when it's talked about.

I guess I was among the few (VERY few) who was not drinking and I wish that someone had taken a little more time to check out the folks around them. If we all give a little more attention to each other and not be a big ass when someone, a little more sober than we are, tell us to " step away form the pool and the drinks" then maybe we all could enjoy the party better. I know it is hard to believe, but if one dummy could close down everything, then we need to be more observent of what is going on with other around us.
I get real surprised when an "excessive gathering" of people can shut down anything at a hotel but then I am just a good old country gal and life in the big city is different. T thought that when they rent out a WHOLE hotel for anything they knew that there might be a "excessive gathering" SOMEHWERE on that property!! but I guess I was wrong.
Well better luck next year for poolcon!!

I figure we are all friends... if we want to have a succesful PoolCon all we have to do is use the buddy system.... if your buddy is about to die.. take him back to the room... if YOU are about to die... have your buddy take you back to your room... but ALWAYS take into consideration that tho you *THINK* you are about to die, you don't have to start screaming and yelling (ahh memories of PoolCon @ DC11)...


oh yeah... and NEVER try to pull the host into the pool by his feet when he is standing by the edge of the pool and you are IN the pool... that seems to result in ass-bruises that last for weeks!
