One of the bartenders at the AP showed me the concept map that has the AP on the left and the new casino on the right. So the AP should be cool for DC13.

[QUOTE=astcell]But can anyone imagine Defcon taking up, say, a wing of the Flamingo, and then all the pool activity going on among regular tourist type folks? I don't think so. QUOTE]

Can you Imagine any other Hotels with serious Gaming businesses allowing Defcon to be hosted there considering most of their "business" is run through servers that control security, etc.... And I can only Imagine what Hotel Management would think Defcon attendees were upto while attending the con. Maybe I am blowing this out of proportion but I doubt Defcon has any credibility with any other Hotels of a size to host Defcon.
      Did Everquest teach you that?

During Blackhat 2003 there was a huge convention in town, 50,000 shoe salesmen. Las Vegas hosts conventions all the time. Are you saying that Defcon is too big for Vegas?

No merely stating that the general consensus' opinion of Hackers is not that good. Most people think we are all criminals without really knowing the facts. All I am saying is that Hotel Management who are only into hosting conventions for the money may not wish to risk the loss of profits and or damages caused by Defcon Attendees. As for getting too big, that is up to the Defcon Organizers to determine. I like 3000 people in one place but I am not sure if I could stand 50,000 of them in that close of a vicinity to me. (Like Flamingo or AP)

All the hotel has to say is, "Bet you can't kleep us safe while hacking the hotels next door." :>

ya know.. I am on the ground here.. I spent a few years playing BlackJack for a living.. all I am saying is that I know just about all of the hotels here... and I would be more than happy to do a little recon on the behalf od DefCon.. in fact... I know of a great hotel that would suit us better than anything else I have seen in quit some time... casino is seprate from the hotel.. therefore 18ers can stay without thier creepy uncle having to stay in the same room with them... but they do have gaming.. a night club... scads-o-convention space.. nice pools... great rooms... full bevy of restraunts and shops.. it is off the strip but there is a FREE shuttle... and another casino right next door.... it is also a newer place.. thos the hotel is not as HUGE as some of the other ones in Vegas... I think it would suit us nicely...

The resort also offers an outdoor pool, health club, whirlpool or spa. Other facilities and services include two on-site restaurants, a coffee shop, an Irish Pub, a Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar, Cocktail lounge, 24-hour room service and much more."

so what do you guys think??? think we could deal with the fact that we would all be off-strip ??

Sounds like you have some sort of stake in the place Siviak. That would be funny plugging a hotel that you make some money off of.

have we met??? you sound like a few of the people that refer to me as "friend"... no.. I do not own stock in the place but I played there a while back and though that it would be the best place to move it after the AP went *squish*... it is nice and contained... 541 room with a few other hotels that they do overflow with (circa the SanTropez) it is isolated and no-one can hear the staff scream.... it is large enough to work with us as far as how much space we need... but it is small enough that we will still have majority ownership of the grounds... like I said... it fit the bill

That's way too nice for Defcon, can you imagine the kind of damage sheet they'd make us sign on the way in?

                          Ashtray $250
                          Towel $125

On the other hand, it does look like a nice hotel. The AP is old and busted, yay for the new hotness.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
