Um, I don't it's AP art. Besides if they can't pay for a real paint job what makes you think that they would pay for something as nice as a Shelby?"It is difficult not to wonder whether that combination of elements which produces a machine for labor does not create also a soul of sorts, a dull resentful metallic will, which can rebel at times". Good point. Maybe I should bring this image with me next time I attend and park a fully insured rental car there. If they complain, I can show them that it has been used as a parking spot before. I used to have the answer to that question... but lets do a little math here...Originally posted by alklloydHow much do you think they make off of us every year.....
how many rooms do they have? multiply that by lets say, $200 a night sound fair? (figure the big rooms are more and there are a lot of us that book mid-week and not just fri-sun)- and multiply THAT by 3 nights during con. lets call this the *room total*
I think the first year we were there we DRANK (no food involved) something like 3-4 MILLION dollars (or so the roumor goes from people that work there) lets call this the *bar total*
food; lets face it at $4 for a slice of pizza not too much.. but lets just call it $10,000 lets call this the *food total*
now add in all of the "damage profits" (you know that they make a few bucks charging us on everything we broke and paid for) lets call this the *stupid bastards broke all this shit and were dumb enough to pay what we told them we paid for it total*
what do YOU think the total is? guesses??If I had a nickle for every time someone offered me ten cents to keep my two cents to myself... I would be a rich man.Comment

How many rooms in the hotel? If we say the operating cost is 10-15% less than they make on the average occupancy the rest of the year (I bet it doesn't top 35% on average for the entire rest of the year). The other 65% of occupancy that we provide would be *pure* profit.Originally posted by SiviakI used to have the answer to that question... but lets do a little math here...

The first year we were there, they ran out of booze before Friday night and they only had the one bar inside the lobby. The following year would be a better basis for estimating. Since attendance was up each subsequent year, they added a second bar in the breakout area and ordered enough booze to make it through the weekend; I think a fair guess would be at least 6 million.Originally posted by SiviakI think the first year we were there we DRANK (no food involved) something like 3-4 MILLION dollars (or so the roumor goes from people that work there) lets call this the *bar total*
Despite my earnest appeals for folks to go anywhere else for food, let's say that 6,000 people each spent $10 over the 3 days (which wouldn't include eating breakfast at the buffet with mimosas). You could easily lowball the food number to $60,000 and I wouldn't be surprised if it went well over $100K, at all.Originally posted by Siviakfood; lets face it at $4 for a slice of pizza not too much.. but lets just call it $10,000 lets call this the *food total*

My guess? Too much... and, as I've said previously, their ass kissing doesn't even come close to what I'd expect for the amount of money I've spent there in the last 5 years. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.Comment

Is 3 million a fair number? If we say each drink is $10, and there were 5000 attendees (just a number I hear thrown about) we get 300,000 drinks sold, or 60 drinks per attendee.divided by the 3 days of defcon that is 20 drinks per person per day, or .83 drinks per hour, for the 72 hours of defcon, Mind you, this is just what was purchased at the AP, not alcohol purchased at the corner mini-mart. I think the 3 million rumor might be a little off...Comment

*update*Originally posted by Siviak..... lets call this the *stupid bastards broke all this shit and were dumb enough to pay what we told them we paid for it total*.....
I remembered that a friend of mine used to own a catering company out here and at one time did a lot of business with the AP (including almost purchasing the "roof tent").
Long story short he went to alot of auctions around town and ended up picking up a bunch of chairs and ART WORKS from the AP... said he paid around $8 each for the "ART", and about $15 for the chairs.... now I understand that these things were "used" but still... what does THAT bring our total too.....
OH and did I fail to mention that the AP gets an override on ALL the rooms sold on that corner (AP, Ameri-Fed, St. Tropez, etc, etc)... food for thoughtIf I had a nickle for every time someone offered me ten cents to keep my two cents to myself... I would be a rich man.Comment

Interesting...Originally posted by Siviaksaid he paid around $8 each for the "ART", and about $15 for the chairs....
The damage sheet had the price of the Art at $75, the Desk chairs at $125 and the bar stools at $200, your friend got a real steal of a deal. I would have liked to have bought a few for smash valueNever drink anything larger than your head!

I think we should just go raid his storage closet and grab a few... when they try to charge you for them... just go grab one out of the carOriginally posted by rendermanI would have liked to have bought a few for smash value

Age Discrimination! I demand equal treatment! I should be entitled to a damage sheet too!Originally posted by astcellI did not get a damage sheet either, Maybe they assume that folks under 30 are the only ones who break things.
Actually, I think I only got a damage sheet the first time DC was at the AP, or maybe the second time. I seem to recall I was given two (different years) and then shown one on another year, but was not given one.
Last year (DC12), I do not remember if I was even shown one.
