Yes, hello I am the newest n00b on the block here, and I will get down on all fours and lick the feet of whoever can help me with this problem. I know that with Digital cable out and all, the problem of people using descramblers to get free cable has been signifcantly reduced. Howeverm if somebody had real old schook cable (i.e. no box, just a straight line from wall to TV) how easy would it be to descramble that and get all the hot XXX channels? Would it even be possible to get a soldering iron and some radio shack parts and throw one together? If this is so, then old school cable still has a problem.

The cable coming in to the house hasn't changed. Any channels available on that feed can be easily obtained through a traditional descrambler. ***BUT*** (There's always a but, isn't there?) The cable companies are sick of losing money to piracy and they know they've got a good thing with digital cable. So, most companies are moving pay-per-view and movie channels over to digital access only. Our local company moved pay-per-view over to digital-only some time ago and there are talks of HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax being next to go. By doing this, they can mitigate their losses to piracy to a small subset of the less valuable channels.the fresh princess of 1338
